Modern Vintage Meets Autumn Layering

Check out how I have moved Modern Vintage into the colder months with Autumnal layers and a mash up of a plaid circle midi skirt, a khaki bomber jacket, plimsoll creeper boots and a bright yellow new wave band tee worn with cute braids in my blue hair. A true No Debutante mash up of Modern vintage style for the autumn! Wrap up but don't lose your style beneath coats and layers this winter. Good luck, it is a challenge to achieve this xx

All clothing from Topshop, 8ball.com and Primark.

Hope you are all enjoying the new fashion season, I love the transition between fashion seasons, it always means a new look and inspires new ways to wear your old wardrobe in a new way! Get inspired! Thanks for reading fashionistas.

Modern Vintage Denim

I own a lot of vintage denim, mainly replicas from the 1940s and 1950s era. I buy my vintage denim from Vivien Of Holloway and Freddies of Pinewood and although I do like to wear the full vintage look, I am not dedicated to it, I'm too fickle to stick to one look. I like to experiment with mixing the contemporary and skate / sportsluxe looks with vintage styles just to keep thing fresh, but I will occasionally dive into the full vintage look.

Today I have four (yes, four!) looks to show you with a modern vintage vibe, expect rockabilly, skate wear, sports styling, double denim, grunge, 1940s land girl style and a bovver bomber jacket all worn with vintage cut denim jeans and dungarees.

All clothing from Vivien Of Holloway, Freddies Of Pinewood, Topshop, Vision Streetwear, Primark, H&M, Dr Martens, Converse and Thrift shops.

Thanks for following. No Debutante shall be back with more fashionista fun very soon.

Blue Vintage

I have been flitting between Modern Vintage, Grunge and Fash Clash of late not knowing which fashion persona is going to reveal itself from one day to the next. Today's post is no different and features a definite Modern Vintage look going on for two consecutive days, the first outfit features a Breton top tucked into my Vivien Of Holloway 'Day of The Dead' Circle skirt, ankle socks and Converse. The second look is more land girl inspired, 1940s dungarees from Freddie's of Pinewood over a striped crop vest with another pair of Converse. I had been trying out styles in my newly coloured Mermaid hair with natural waves created by removing braids from my hair and a good old Victory roll updo! The more colours you have the more texture is created and more varied hair styles can be achieved. I love styling up newly coloured hair! I also love the way my hair colour clashed up with my mixed prints and Modern Vintage looks, adding a touch of Grunge styling to a predominantly vintage look.

All clothing by Vivien of Holloway, Freddies of Pinewood, New Look, Topshop, Tatty Devine and Converse. Hair colour by Vikki Mac.

Going Underground

I am really looking forward to the weekend, nope, I'm not lucky enough to be going to Glastonbury Festival but I am really looking forward to seeing some of my bestest friends in London. It's a ladies only, kids free, day and night of fun and to be honest, things will get messy. I cannot wait!!

Today's post is inspired by my fun filled weekend which is rapidly approaching. Here are a couple of outfits I have worn out lately, yes, actually going out for drinks and that, with grown ups.

I wore the first outfit to a double whammy night out where I firstly attended my friends 40th Birthday Bash which unfortunately clashed with my club night Bang, needless to say I was rather worse for wear when I turned up to Bang and had to DJ straight away so I didn't manage to get any decent photographs of my preppy, modern vintage 1950s inspired outfit. We will make do with the photographs taken (very quickly) at home while I rushed to get ready for party no.1!

The second outfit was worn to a wedding reception and again has a rockabilly modern vintage look about it. I really like this dress from Zara but there is a fault in the zip which means I need help zipping it up which puts me off it a bit. The deep cut back does show off my tattoo though and the dress has pockets which always pleases me!  I am not happy with the way the hotel carpets are clashing with my outfit.

Which outfit is your favourite Modern Vintage Preppy or Rockabilly Wedding?

All clothing from Vivien of Holloway,Zara, Primark and New Look.

Thank you for reading. I shall be back very soon with more personal style, fashion obsessions and fashionista fun.

Time To Pretend

Some days, I don't have the time to take photographs of my outfit or to even write a blog post, which I have long since accepted. Now that I have a fair amount of blog followers I find myself getting annoyed if I haven't managed to get a photo an outfit especially when I am really happy with it or I am wearing something new that I want to show off, which is frankly ridiculous! Since getting a smart phone over a year ago and being able to use Instagram to take personal style pics and share them instantly (in a space where people are genuinely interested in your style) I have found this social networking tool great for those days when my time is really limited. Today's personal style pics feature a couple of instances when time has been short and I have only managed to take a snap shot of an outfit or look. The last look is how I would prefer to show off my outfits but sometimes this just isn't possible.

Expect Dungarees, Diner chic and a Rockabilly Cool.

Brand New You're Retro

I've been wearing a lot more Modern Vintage style clothing of late and thought I would share with you what I would describe as my own personal take on Modern Vintage style. Following a discussion with my sista fashionista Selena (aka blogger Dilly Foxtrot) at the weekend, we both agreed that we love a bit of vintage styling mixed up with contemporary styling. The thing about Modern Vintage is that you can take little bits of style from any era and mix it up with current fashion pieces from the high street and your ever-growing wardrobe of clothes and then style it up anyway you want. I love the freedom of putting any looks together and not feeling restricted to a certain style. The main aim is to keep things current and fresh with contemporary items which makes for an individual style that is easy to maintain, looks great but can evolve and progress into another look as each new fashion season emerges.

When I say vintage I mean anything from the last century (and beyond) especially from the 1920s-1970s. I think I would go as far to say that the 1980s and 1990s is still retro not vintage but perhaps I am only saying that because I was a kid during that time. There is a fine line between throwing the word vintage around willy-nilly. I really don't think I would hear the words 'a vintage Pop Swatch' (circa early 1990's) it would clearly be a retro Pop Swatch, wouldn't it? You see what I mean...

So, remember if you are not inspired by anything from the past then you are just Modern! Which means anything from the 1980s and 1990s is Modern Retro? Phew! This is getting confusing!

Let's get on with my latest personal style post which is definitely Modern Vintage, inspired by the 1940s and 1950s housewife with a few modern twists.

Modern Vintage

I have had a great weekend with my lovely friend and fellow blogger Dilly Foxtrot aka Selena, who is in the process of setting up a new business as a hair stylist and asked me along (with my pink and blue hair) to model in a couple of fashion shoots for her website and for promotional shots. I, of course, did not refuse and you will get to see the results in the very near future. It was all very exciting and I love having people put my hair up in lots of different styles especially now it is long, so watch this space!!

One of the looks from the shoot was vintage inspired (and if you take a look at my instagram profile you may get to see a sneak peek at the outfit) so let's have a look at today's vintage inspired personal style pics. I am wearing denim dungarees and jeans from Freddies of Pinewood and both looks are rockabilly / modern vintage inspired. I am wearing the jeans and dungarees long in these pics but I am looking forward to rolling them up a bit more for the summer months with large turn ups, which look great worn with socks and creepers or wedges. I wish summer would hurry up, it's bloody freezing here in the UK at the moment.
Can I tempt you to step away from the skinnies and persuade you to get a pair of 1940s/50s inspired jeans??

Thanks for following and I hope to be back tomorrow with some more fashion fun!

Modern Life is Rubbish

I'm a very fickle person, I admit it, a typical Gemini some might say, a split personality perhaps?? Well, this is mostly the truth when it comes to fashion and how I choose to wear certain looks.....all at once mostly. Today we are looking at one of my fashion persona's and, to be honest, it's the most common of my looks these days. Oh my Gosh! Have a finally found my very own look and I am sticking to it???.......I wouldn't hold your breath......

Today's look (Fashion persona....ahem) is vintage, it's late 1940s / early 1950s, it's rockabilly. Here a few examples.....

Let's start with the rock'n'roll circle dress that I bought from H&M years ago and have been wearing ever since! This skirt looks great with an elasticated belt and worn up or down with either a big petticoat and wedges or with a head scarf and Converse for a more dressed down look. I've been pairing it with jeans lately too for a more rockabilly, tomboy look which frankly confuses most people! But I like it!

The second look is a bit more forties vintage and I have styled up several victory rolls in my hair and have worn a Breton tee and my Freddies of Pinewood wide leg jeans. It's a classic daytime outfit.

The third outfit is more of a modern day take on vintage style, I have dressed up a H&M skater dress, nipped in my waist, worn a monochrome cardigan and put my hair up in a victory roll wrapped up with a leopard print head scarf.......But, what's this? I knew I couldn't stay in my vintage persona for too long.........Look, I'm wearing my rainbow wedges!! Love it!! Now all I need are those flashing Buffalo boots from Ashish X Topshop and I am happy!

Have fun with your fashion!!
