How No Debutante Wears A 1950s Circle Skirt

After a very busy weekend which involved DJing at my quarterly club night Bang and hanging out with my lovely cousins who had come to stay, I have finally been beaten, again, by a sickness bug. Well, I am not sick, I just feel like there is an elephant sat on my chest and although I do not have a sore throat, I have managed to totally lose my voice, which is not a useful thing lose when you are the mother of three excitable children, who can't seem to hear what you are saying at the best of times... Anyhoo, I am hopefully now on the mend and ready for some fashion blogging action. I have been liking and pinning all over the place on all social networking sites I follow for my love of all things from London Fashion Week. It is my favourite of all the Fashion weeks and I always tend to go for the more avant guarde Vs street style collections and London never fails to inspire me. Check out my Pinterest fashion board here to see my favourites from the shows so far (and much more), why don't you follow me whilst you are there, eh?

Today's personal style looks include my Vivien Of Holloway 'Day of the Dead' print 1950s circle skirt. Midi skirts and dresses are all over the place at the moment in one guise or another but today I am rocking another Modern Vintage Mash up...Oversized T-shirts tucked into a 1950s circle skirt and worn with either 90s inspired platform boots or preppy Converse low tops. Wear with cute little cardigans and tights for the colder months and then lose both for the summer. Pretty versatile I'd say. What's next for No Debutante? Well, I am seeing this skirt worn with the oversized t-shirts but, to show off the skirts true potential and fullness, with a big petticoat under the skirt and perhaps some platform heels?? What do you think? Now to find the occasion to wear it....

Thanks for following fashionistas, see you again soon for some more fashion fun.

Going Underground

I am really looking forward to the weekend, nope, I'm not lucky enough to be going to Glastonbury Festival but I am really looking forward to seeing some of my bestest friends in London. It's a ladies only, kids free, day and night of fun and to be honest, things will get messy. I cannot wait!!

Today's post is inspired by my fun filled weekend which is rapidly approaching. Here are a couple of outfits I have worn out lately, yes, actually going out for drinks and that, with grown ups.

I wore the first outfit to a double whammy night out where I firstly attended my friends 40th Birthday Bash which unfortunately clashed with my club night Bang, needless to say I was rather worse for wear when I turned up to Bang and had to DJ straight away so I didn't manage to get any decent photographs of my preppy, modern vintage 1950s inspired outfit. We will make do with the photographs taken (very quickly) at home while I rushed to get ready for party no.1!

The second outfit was worn to a wedding reception and again has a rockabilly modern vintage look about it. I really like this dress from Zara but there is a fault in the zip which means I need help zipping it up which puts me off it a bit. The deep cut back does show off my tattoo though and the dress has pockets which always pleases me!  I am not happy with the way the hotel carpets are clashing with my outfit.

Which outfit is your favourite Modern Vintage Preppy or Rockabilly Wedding?

All clothing from Vivien of Holloway,Zara, Primark and New Look.

Thank you for reading. I shall be back very soon with more personal style, fashion obsessions and fashionista fun.

No Debutante - Fashion Mash up!

To round things up nicely and before you get to see all my lovely outfits from my Ibiza holiday, I have compiled some photographs of things that I wore and did in the run up to the holiday, which for me is about to come to end as I return to work tomorrow!!

The first two outfits were worn a few days before my holiday and I was rapidly running out of summer clothes to wear in the continuing UK heatwave as most of my favourite items were packed away to be worn in Ibiza. Being a person with more clothes than is probably necessary, I soldiered on and managed to create a couple of looks to show you. My colleagues at work have been calling me a 1940s land girl and then a parent from the school called me a Punk Land Girl, I, of course, take both of these comments as compliments and continue to rock it up land grrrrllll style!

I got really excited today when I noticed that Vivien of Holloway who design the vintage jeans that I am wearing in the first outfit are now following me on Instagram! I am a very happy camper that they like my style. Alot of Vivien of Holloway lovers are pure 1950s, rockabilly or 1940s (Paloma Faith is always rocking her look in Vivien of Holloway outfits) so it is an honour that they have noticed and liked my hybrid version of 1940s and 50s styling. I wore Vivien of Holloway to my wedding and have been hooked ever since, please check them out here www.vivienofholloway.com you won't be disappointed!!

The second set of images were from a lunchtime browse around the shops in Bristol, which ended up costing me money......whoops! I fell in love with the late 1980s Fresh Prince of Bel-Air stylee collection by Kuccia at Topshop, there is so much print and colour and bodycon, I just couldn't resist trying it on!! I loved the printed catsuit and even more with the silky geometric print bomber jacket worn over it. It's print clash fantastic!! I didn't leave Topshop empty handed and I am now the proud owner of the bomber jacket. The saga of me finding the perfect Khaki airforce bomber jacket is still continuing, I'll tell you about it when I finally have the right one in my hands!! At least I have my Fresh Prince bomber jacket now!! Yes,I did take photos of myself in the changing rooms and someone even tried to tell on me to the Shopgirl, who really couldn't give a damn, some people (the other costumer on this occasion) are assholes!! I still love the catsuit.......

So the last photograph has become something of a running joke with me and my husband Phil. It started with the Rad t-shirt and has now become an obsession to send each other photographs of fake skate fashion images and clothing ripping off or referencing skaters. I found this beaut in H&M announcing 'I love Skateboys' and had to text it to Phil instantly. I did not buy it, you may be surprised to hear.

Thanks for following.

No Debutante - Terminal Preppy

I have a dress for the wedding!! I found it in the first and only shop I went in, which was an unusual choice for me, the perfect dress is from.......Zara!?! I am not going to reveal the dress until the day of the wedding (that's just over two weeks) but I will reveal that the dress is floral, has an open back and has a flippy skater skirt, it is a very similar shape to the Topshop dress that I already own and it has pockets! Phil, thinks I am obsessed with pockets, I had to text him to tell him about the pockets whilst I was stood in the (very long) queue paying for the dress. It's all very exciting! I also got a pair of silky sportsluxe floral shorts for my hols, so I am feeling rather happy with my shopping successes.

Here's today's outfit, I wanted to wear my tapered jeans from Japan and the rest of the outfit followed. It's a bit of a 1950s preppy look dragged through the 1980s and into the present day, that's covering three decades in one outfit! Nice!

Right, that's the dress sorted.......now there really is the problem of the accessories......Oh Jeez!!!

Thanks for reading my blog and watch this space to see what happens next.......Do I need new earrings?........Which shoes?......The wedding outfit saga continues........

No Debutante - Who Loves The Sun

I found out yesterday evening that I, unfortunately, did not make it to the shortlist for the Company Style Bloggers Awards 2013, I am, of course, a bit gutted but I'm glad I entered and would like to thank everyone who nominated me, I really appreciate it. There were ten blogs selected out of possible hundreds even thousands of blogs ( I have no idea how many blogs were nominated) for each category and you never know, I could have been number 11 on the Best Personal Style Blog list and just missed out??  There is no point in feeling bad about losing out even though it would have been brilliant for me to get shortlisted, I won't over analyse it. I love blogging too much to just give up, it is like a diary for me now, well, a diary that other people are welcome to read! Congratulations to all the bloggers (some of whom I follow) that did make the shortlist and good luck in reaching the finals!

So, that's enough of all this Style Awards malarkey, let's get back to me and what I've been wearing! The sun actually came out this weekend and we had a picnic in the park.

This week has seen the return of the crop top for me, I wear mine with high waisted bottoms or layered over a vest. They are easier to wear than you think, despite the return of 1990s style I am not recommending low cut jeans with crop tops (or low cut jeans at all come to think of it!).
Converse and ankle socks is a preferred look for me at the moment too, it's childlike and preppy, so very much my syle.
I am also really getting used to wearing my maxi skirt, I like to wear mine with a vest or crop top and reckon it would look great with my Ridiculous shoes (rainbow platform creeper boots for those who haven't yet met my ridiculous shoes!) especially on a hot summer evening! Come on Summer!

It's too early for that dress.......7 Months Post pregnancy fashion dilemmas

I am sorry for the lack of posts lately, I really am so busy all the time and now it's the summer hols for the kids, I am not getting a quick break to blog during the day - when the boys are usually at school and little Sylvie Belle is having a nap -it just takes me so long to select and crop images before I have even decided what I am going to say on the actual post. I really need to do some extra short 'n' sweet posts to keep the blog updated more often. Here are some more of my style moments for my post pregnancy posts, these images were taken 7 months after Sylvie was born in July this year. The weather was rainy forever here in the UK and then finally, the sun came out....

Quiff week

My hair has been driving me crazy since I have been, very slowly, growing out the much loved undercut, I am now attempting to achieve a cute 1990s britpop bob. Although I can put in the britpop style hair grips I am a long way off from a bob haircut! Boo hoo! In an attempt to style the inbetween hairstyle, the quiff is always a winner.

Check out my cool little dudes above, this was a very difficult photo to achieve as Lucian and Mika seem to have a big problem with standing still!

My Peter Pan collar dress from Primark, Lucian -stripe tee from H&M & red trousers from Primark, Mika - Rock tee from H&M & red hoodie from Primark.

Bright colour & leopard print

Dress from Topshop, cardigan from H&M, red Converse low tops.

1950s Inspired

Dress - Topshop, sunglasses from Asos, necklace from Tatty Devine

Preppy 1950s

Gypsy top & 1950s cut jeans both from Vivien of Holloway

At Home she feels like a Tourist

My lovely husband Phil got me this Gang of Four tee for my birthday from 8ball.com who have a great range of band and rock tshirts. Gang of Four are one of my favourite New Wave bands, I bloody love 'em! I have had several compliments about this tee and I am always hoping that people are not thinking the old cliche 'I bet she has no idea who Gang of Four are.....'

My new dress!

It's always time for a new dress in my opinion, I picked up this sleeveless shirt style dress with cute swallow print from H&M and paired it with my trusty red belt and headscarf (I got bored of the quiff after a few days....)

I have a second batch of these images so will start putting them up over the next few days, before this I have to choose images from my club night Bang for the facebook page - check it out here www.facebook.com/bangbristol - which was last Friday and was lots of fun and very very hot! Rock'n'Roll! ND xx
