Winter Layering In Denim & Plaid

Hey Fashionistas! I love to tomboy it up in denim and plaid, whether its a rockabilly inspired dungarees, skate tee, creepers and plaid shirt or a modern vintage crop top and 1950s jeans look. I can girl it up and down, depending how I am feeling........On this particular day, when I wore the rockabilly dungarees ensemble, I wasn't feeling too great, this was the first day I hadn't worn PJs for about a week after that damn Christmas flu bug attempted to finish me off the week before Christmas. My heart wasn't totally into choosing an outfit but this look is always a win win for me, so I didn't really have to think about it. After the week of PJs, dungarees and a plaid shirt seemed the next closest thing. So, I got all dressed up and braided my hair but couldn't face the make up (hence me hiding my face for the photographs) I still wasn't feeling one hundred percent but thought my outfit looked cool and should be documented for the blog. I am not a big beauty girl who perfects her make up or attempts to look beautiful, it's all about the clothes and hair for me, if my face looks OK then that's a bonus!

The modern vintage second outfit is one you have seen before here at the No Debutante blog but it is one of my go to outfits, I needed to wear a long sleeve as I was cold, a crop top if you're cold you may ask? My 1950s jeans are high on the waist and I had the plaid shirt layered over too so only a tiny bit of skin showing on my upper torso. The thing I will never understand in the cold, winter months are people with no socks on??? It makes me shiver even considering it. What is wrong with these people??? These second images were taken in my new loft bedroom, I am loving the amount of light in the loft and the white walls make it a perfect room for taking photographs. I have even shared a close up selfie of my face, a very rare thing for this blogger, I can tell you!

Which is your favourite look?

Modern Vintage

I have had a great weekend with my lovely friend and fellow blogger Dilly Foxtrot aka Selena, who is in the process of setting up a new business as a hair stylist and asked me along (with my pink and blue hair) to model in a couple of fashion shoots for her website and for promotional shots. I, of course, did not refuse and you will get to see the results in the very near future. It was all very exciting and I love having people put my hair up in lots of different styles especially now it is long, so watch this space!!

One of the looks from the shoot was vintage inspired (and if you take a look at my instagram profile you may get to see a sneak peek at the outfit) so let's have a look at today's vintage inspired personal style pics. I am wearing denim dungarees and jeans from Freddies of Pinewood and both looks are rockabilly / modern vintage inspired. I am wearing the jeans and dungarees long in these pics but I am looking forward to rolling them up a bit more for the summer months with large turn ups, which look great worn with socks and creepers or wedges. I wish summer would hurry up, it's bloody freezing here in the UK at the moment.
Can I tempt you to step away from the skinnies and persuade you to get a pair of 1940s/50s inspired jeans??

Thanks for following and I hope to be back tomorrow with some more fashion fun!

No Debutante - Brrrrrr! Furrrrrr!

Hey hey! After a lovely weekend with my ladies visiting the Bath Thermae Spa (and queueing up no less than an hour, in the freezing cold, to do so, might I add) followed by Italian food and many drinks I am actually feeling knackered rather than relaxed (we fitted in a lot during the spa day) so I am going to attempt to finish a blog post before I fall asleep!

I had a fashion dilemma today, I had purchased some jeans from Topshop, first pair of jeans bought in about two years (due to my fussy nature with jeans, but that's another story). So, I finally find a pair I like in Topshop, it's the Mom jeans, slight high waist, tapered leg but not too slim, it's as close as I have come to a slim leg jean in about three years....So, very excited about the new jeans, put them on, wear them on the school run....before I could even get a photograph of me in them for the blog, my lovely little terror Sylvie squashed a big juicy, painted hand print on my leg! I knew I shouldn't have got the paints out! So, I am now sat wearing my trusted VOH 1950s jeans and hoping that the paint comes out of the Mom jeans! Waaaaa!! You never know I might get a photograph of them one day!

Moving on to today's personal style pics, here are a few ways I wear Fur. I love faux fur coats and don't own nearly enough in my opinion. I get very annoyed on a rainy day when I cannot wear my fur coats because I have to push Sylvie's buggy...You can't hold an umbrella and push a buggy, believe me I have tried. A day doesn't go by here in the UK without rain these days. It completely dictates my outfit and I hate it! Sometimes I just think f**k it, I'm wearing my fur in the rain, I don't care! As you can imagine, it doesn't end well! So here are the photos of me and my furs, enjoy!

No Debutante - Debaser

Today's personal style post starts with what I wore to my club night Bang at the end of 2013. Yes, I am slightly behind with showing you my personal style looks of late but who cares if they are still fabulous?

I went for a fashion mash up of Grunge V's Rockabilly, the usual fashion chaos that you expect from me but I think it works. Pink hair, crop top, plaid shirt, 1950s jeans, ankle socks and creepers. Yeah!

The second outfit is definitely a grunge outfit with mix print plaid/tartan and monochrome clashes. The Aztec cardigan always gets a lot of love on Facebook and Instagram, this was a great purchase from New Look (bought about two years ago) that just keeps on giving! Love your clothes!!

No Debutante - Ill Communication

Hey Hey Fashionistas! I'm sorry I have been away, I refuse to write a downer post about bad weather, tiredness, illness and general winter blues which has been my life for most of 2014 (and why there has been a serious lack of blogging) but this is not going to make you happy or bring the sunshine out! Let's ignore my ailments and check out what I have been wearing during these wintry months. Bad weather does not mean bad outfits, check out how I dress for winter, bright colours and outrageous day time glamour essential!

The first outfit is very 1950s inspired, with my leopard fur, plaid shirt tied at the waist, 1950s jeans, creepers and Victory roll. The second outfit is more 1980s inspired and you don't get much brighter and more colourful than with my amazing Kuccia Aztec print bomber jacket worn with my Coca-Cola crop top and the 1950s jeans again with Dr Martens and hair in a high topknot and headscarf. I think you'll agree that these outfits certainly brighten up an winters day. It makes me want to like winter again.......well, almost....

Thanks for reading and hello to my new followers.

See you very soon. ND xx

No Debutante - Shirt and Sweet

Today's personal style post is a mash up of different rockabilly looks and hairstyles. For both outfits I am wearing shirts with my Vivien of Holloway 1950s jeans, ankle socks and creepers. Shirt tucked in or out? I like both.

I love trying out different types of Victory rolls in my hair, I thought I wouldn't have thick / long enough hair to achieve a double victory roll but it is possible even on fine, mid length hair. When attempting rockabilly hairstyles backcombing is your friend, it also helps if you hair hasn't just been washed as it's not so flyaway and you'll have more control over it. Lots of people ask me if I put rollers in my hair or if I am wearing rollers!? I have never used rollers, I just take a section of hair, backcomb it from the root and then roll it up using my fingers. It's actually quite easy when you get used to it. I have thought about doing a YouTube tutorial but honestly there are loads of victory roll tutorials already on there, that's how I learnt how to do it. Ladies, get rolling!!

You may also notice a little guest in today's photographs, isn't my little Sylvie Belle growing up? Sylvie is now two years old and loves princess dresses and wants pink hair like her Mummy! She is the cutest!! (My hair is pink now but not in these photographs, incase you were wondering...)

Three posts in one week? This is some sort of record for me these days! I'd like to say that I won't be wearing the tartan shirt in the next personal style post but then I would be lying. How many more ways can I possibly wear it before you see a repeat outfit? I can assure you it could go on for a long time, the possibilities are endless!

Thanks for joining me today and have a fantastic week on this run up to Christmas! Excited!!!  xx

No Debutante - One Shirt Two Ways

Here's a look at two of the ways I wear my plaid shirt. The shirt is from Primark and a new favourite item of mine. Both looks are pretty much rockabilly in style and the first outfit was the most popular on Instagram. Which look do you like the most?

For the first and most popular outfit I have paired the shirt with a crop top, 1950s Vivien of Holloway jeans and creepers with red ankle socks, I do not co-ordinate accessories on purpose, I just like red!

The second and more quirky outfit I have worn the plaid shirt with a vest top, skater skirt and creepers worn with American Apparel tube socks. I do love swallow necklaces don't I? It's no wonder I ended up with swallow tattoos!

Today I had one of those days when I actually got stuff done, achieved a thing or two and now I have managed to write a blog post. I am feeling rather pleased with myself.

Thanks for reading!

No Debutante - Black Sabbath

I am a lover of bright colours and clashing prints so it has surprised me that the next two personal style outfits do not feature any prints at all and a lot of the colour black!?! Which is very unusual for me. Is it the return of 1990s minimalism? Nah, I think it is just a coincidence on this occasion, I have still managed to add a coloured belt here, some printed Converse there and a pink flower in my rockabilly hair-do. So all is not lost for this clashing print and colour mash up girl.

The second outfit was worn to watch my sons play football, yes this girlie, rockabilly pin-up was a Soccer Mom! You won't see me wearing waterproof warm clothing on the side lines of the football pitch, Oh the glamour! I'm not sure how much longer my kids are going to tolerate my style. My oldest son Lucian (9) was disgusted by the idea of him possibly banging into me on the bus home from high school, he's not even going to high school for two years! I promised I wouldn't talk to him...

Thanks for reading xx
