More Culottes Love!

I love my culottes from The White Pepper and after this post I already have enough images for a third Culottes Love post so let's crack on and see how I've been styling them lately. Well, it's all about the white t-shirt today, it's a look that could be quite minimal in monochrome but where would the fun be in that?? I have styled mine up with a fun kawaii style tee (my husband Phil bought it in Tokyo years ago and loved the print, he had no idea it was a Comme Des Garcons copy and I don't think he really cared either! It's a great print!) a topknot, ankle socks, creeper pumps AND no tights which I got very excited about on Instagram. For the second outfit I have styled up the culottes with my rad crop (with a black vest underneath, it's not that warm in the UK yet!) polka dot ankle socks, creepers and a plaid shirt, more grunge than kawaii. Which is your favourite? Watch this space for more Culottes love styled up by No Debutante over the next few weeks and go get your culottes!!

Smocks Rock

Hi Fashionistas! Thanks for joining me for the last No Debutante blog post for March. I am ending this windy and wintry month with a smock dress post. You know how I love smock dresses, right? Well here's three ways I have worn them lately featuring my lovely polka-dot blue smock and my blue check smock from The White Pepper and the gingham Topshop smock. I do love wearing a contrasting pair of bright tights and these red lovelies have given a new lease of life to my pretty polka dot dress. I have always loved sixties styling and bright colour tights were a key item for all sixties chicks, not content with sticking to one era for inspiration I have mashed the look up with nineties Bjork topknots and modern vintage creepers and ankle socks. The second look is more nineties grunge still keeping the Bjork buns but wearing Dr Martens and denim cut offs with more contrasting red socks. The final look was worn on a trip to the cinema with my boys with a bomber jacket, platform boots and a single topknot.

 Which look is your favourite?

All clothing from The White Pepper, Topshop, Underground, Dr Martens & Primark.

Modern Vintage Belle

I knew I had worn a few Modern Vintage items lately so when I started to compile the collection of images for this post I found all but one of my recent Modern Vintage outfits included vintage cut jeans. There are two pairs of jeans in question today the first being my Freddies Of Pinewood 1940s jeans and the second are the old faithful Vivien of Holloway 1950s lovelies.

You must always wear your vintage jeans turned up at the hem and the higher the turn up the better for a true vintage look. I always like to mix my vintage styling with contemporary items and generally any other era inspiration I can get my modern vintage hands on. I love to mix and match styles and I am general happy with the results of my little fashion experiments. Plus Freddies Of Pinewood liked my modern vintage pics on Instagram which will always brighten my day!

Today I have mixed skate and surf style t-shirts and grunge styling with vintage cut jeans for a fresh take on modern vintage. I am loving the half mast trouser look at the moment so these Freddies 1940s jeans are right up my street and bang on trend for this spring summer where wide legged, cropped trousers and culottes are going to be massive! They are already all over the catwalks and appearing in street style social networking images and have started filtering into the high street too. I reckon every shop must have at least one pair of culottes in at the moment. I will be interested to see if, like dungarees and tapered jeans, it takes a few seasons for the general mass consumer to accept a pair of culottes or wide leg trousers into their wardrobes or if this look really will be the big thing this summer?? What do you think? Will you be buying a pair of culottes this season or are you just a happy bystander of the trend??

Smock Dress Obsession Part 1 - Grunge Kid

As any follower of No Debutante will know, I have a love and possible obsession for smock dresses. I have so many now I practically have one smock dress for every day of the week (I am currently at six smock dresses and counting....) so I challenged myself to wear all my smock dresses over a week and here is the first of the smock dresses rocked up No Debutante style!

This plaid smock dress is not as voluminous as my other smock dresses and is more grunge than baby doll, it was purchased from my favourite throw-away fashion store Primark. I've dressed it up with creepers and a messy, sixties inspired bouffant bunches updo in my hair. Cute Grunge! Boom! What do you think?

Smock And Roll

We all know that No Debutante has an obsession for Smock dresses at the moment, especially those wonderfully oversized smocks from my new favourite shop The White Pepper. Well, guess what I've been wearing lately?? Here's a couple of ways I have worn my smock dresses from The White Pepper in the past week, think 1990s indie girl Vs 1960s Dolly.

The first polka-dot smock dress is worn with the vintage denim jacket, contrasting red ankle socks and creepers. I wore this look to work and it was a surprising big hit on Instagram too, thanks to all my likers!

The second plaid smock dress was worn last Friday night at my club night Bang, I wore it with my lovely black kimono, creepers and polka dot frilly ankle socks. I like to boy things up a bit mixing cute girlie items with creeper shoes, it sounds like a tough look but this look is more cute than tough with the frilly ankle socks just adding to the cuteness! Kawaii!!!
Which is your favourite look?

Girls Gone Wild.......Nineties Inspired T-shirts and Denims

A look that was popular with No Debutante last week was t-shirts and denims, mainly skate or surf labelled t-shirts worn with a bit of nineties denim.

The first outfit inspired by nineties layering and the BMX sports wear inspired Marc By Marc Jacobs collection (see last image below) by the street style queens Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley. Worn with a skinny long sleeve tee underneath my Vision Streetwear tee and the very nineties inspired short a-line denim skirt, platform ankle boots and braided hair to finish the look. A very No Debutante take on the look I'm sure you'll agree!
Don't follow.....Get inspired people!

The second outfit also screams the nineties with an oversize Maui tee worn untucked over my tapered Mom jeans with spotty ankle socks, creeper shoes and a grungey oversized cardigan layered over the top. This is more of an androgynous look that anyone can rock despite the oversized and unfitted nature of the outfit.

Platform ankle boots and creeper heeled shoes were massive in the early nineties and it looks like they are here to stay for the next couple of seasons......an investment well worth making for this Winter!!! Plus for any of you who are still rocking skinny jeans and god forbid jeggings please put them aside and reach for the tapered jeans, boyfriend jeans and 1950s style jeans, wear them on or above the waist and turned up at the hem. Don't be afraid, they are more flattering than you think!

All clothing from Vision Streetwear, Topshop, Underground at Office and Primark.

Rock Lobster

Here's the first glimpse of my latest mermaid hair colour with it's blue and green sections that have since merged together to create a full on mermaid inspired colour explosion!

What better to wear with my mermaid locks than a blue crop top, denim cut offs and a tasselled Kimono worn with rockabilly ankle socks and creepers.
I had chosen to wear my hair down on this occasion to show off the full colour effect. Thanks to the marvellous Vikki Mac for her creative skills as my hair stylist, you rock!

I am loving my Urban Outfitters kimono and want to wear it every day, it will be ruined by next summer at this rate since delicate silky garments, kids and a busy lifestyle don't really mix! Never save things for best I say, or you'll never wear them! How can you have a favourite dress that you never wear?? Don't wait for an occasion to wear it, make everyday the occasion to wear it!

Time Flies

Well, they say time flies when you're having fun (or in my case have too many distractions) I managed to totally miss my 300th blog post! Yes, it was two posts ago! I am pretty happy I have actually found the time for 300 blog posts....in three years! Not quite the one blog post a day that I orignally planned but the blog isn't my life, it's more like a diary....a fashion diary, which is exactly what I wanted it to be when I started it back in 2011. I am glad I have kept the blog going, it could have been easier to abandon it and just stick with Instagram and my Facebook page, which to be honest, are much more instant ways to show the world my daily outfits and current obsessions, with limited text and instant image uploads. I have decided to carry on with the No Debutante blog as it is now a diary and it is more honest than the instant one sentance comments that come with the other social networking sites. You get to know more about a person on their blog as it is usually more text heavy. What do you prefer in a blog? More text and information or more images?? I'll be honest I am an image lover but occassionally I like to know more about the post or generally have more time to read each blog post in full. Which begs the question....Is anybody actually reading these blogs at all? Are you reading my blog post right now? If yes, please leave a comment!

Moving on to today's personal style outfits and linking up with the previous post about my love for oversized t-shirts, here is another way I wear my oversized tees, tucked into little skater skirts and accessorised up!
I love bright coloured tights, it's such an easy way to add colour to an outfit. If you want to add even more colour to your outfit a Kuccia silky bomber is the only way to go!
Which is your favourite outfit? Tokyo Grunge (as it was named on Instagram) or Bright Kuccia Mash Up? Never hear it be said that a No Debutante outfit lacks personality and sparkle!

All clothing from 8ball.com, H&M, Primark, Kuccia, Topshop, Tatty Devine and Underground Shoes.

Thanks so much for reading, No Debutante will be back very soon with more fashionista fun.

My Mom Jeans!

I love my Topshop Mom jeans! They are a slim boyfriend style jean with a higher waist rather than a slouchy boyfriend waist and pretty much tick all my requirements in a pair of jeans. High waist? Tick. Not skinnies? Tick. Can be turned up at hem? Tick. Comfortable fit? Tick.
If there is one thing I cannot bear it is trousers falling off my arse or anything that creates muffin top, a look due to be a thing of the past, when people who have no business wearing low waisted skinnies stop wearing them and hopefully see the more flattering light of the likes of the Topshop Mom jeans! I guess it would help if people wouldn't insist on wearing a size smaller than they actually are, I really couldn't care what size my clothes are, I keep trying all the sizes on until I get the fit I am looking for. I know  people who refuse to buy a size over a certain size, they have a size limit, which I think is ridiculous. Who is actually looking at the size of your clothes and judging you? I choose to buy the 32" waist Mom jeans which makes these jeans a Size 14 in the UK, my measurements make me a Size 12  but I like to have a slightly looser fit in jeans and these fit me so well!

The Mom jeans are really flattering and are not too snug on the waist so look great with tucked in tops and even crop tops. I love the retro late 1980s / early 1990s look about them, it's refreshing after years of  skinnies and for me a different look from my vintage 1940s/50s jeans, which I still love, of course! I am pleased to see a lot of people (male and female) embracing the Mom style jeans, after the ocean of skinnies, it's been a long time coming!
