The Anti Fashion Klown Tribe

Today's post was supposed to be about a group of influential fashionistas and creatives that I follow Instagram, but I found myself totally girl crushing on Tuttii Fruitti London and ended up listening to podcast interviews and watching YouTube videos to find out more about them! So, here it is, a lil' post dedicated to Tuttii Fruitti London, if you think I'm colourful then get ready to be dazzled!

The Tuttii Fruittii Klowns

Tuttii Fruittii London caught my eye on Instagram a few years ago, after I started to follow, the self confessed Clown Hair Sculptures, Tuttii Fruittii and Toni Tits. I became fascinated with their anti fashion, punk clown styling. I just love their self titled Technicolour Hair Sculptures and their own personal clown style.

First things first, They are Klowns and I love them for it!

The Tuttii Fruitti salon started off in a caravan that often went on tour, around festivals as an art installation, as well as a hair salon, when not based in an old school playground in Deptford, London. Following the gentrification of Deptford and their beloved school being turned into flats, Tutti Fruitti opened their own salon on Douglas Way in Deptford, I think a year ago, (instagram tells me they've just had a one year anniversary party).

The salon is decorated in their awe-inspring style of mixing colourful, patterns and artwork into their safe and welcoming space for all who are wanting to get their hair sculpted into amazing styles by these beautiful Klowns. I am dying to get down to Deptford and get my hair did! Imagine if they were in Bristol, I'd be in there all the time!

The Tuttii Fruitti Klown style is a mix of traditional clown and London street style. The make-up is contemporary and tribal and reminds me of, a very bright and colourful,  Leigh Bowery and NYC Club Kid style mashed up with clown prints and memphis style art, creating their signature Tuttii Fruitti style.

The hair sculptures mix intricate, shaved, undercut styles with bright colours and patterns. Tuttii Fruitti even incorporate prints and styles from traditional clown costumes into their hairstyles! They are Klowns, they do hair and they are just amazing! I love them!

Midi System

Another favourite skirt length of No Debutante's is the Midi skirt or in this case the 1950s circle skirt. When I purchased my first circle skirt I was well involved in the whole modern vintage / rockabilly look and I had only planned to wear it as a 1950s vintage item matched with 1950s gypsy tops and bustiers for the full blown fifties look. After a while I realised I wanted to wear the skirt more often than for my random vintage summer days and needed to move the circle skirt into the autumn and to fit my more contemporary but haphazard street style wardrobe. I started wearing my circle skirts with tucked in tees, crop tops and even mashed up in a grunge layered style which works well especially in the colder months.


Today you can see a few months worth of circle skirt outfits worn No Debutante style showing you how I wear my circle skirts all year round. Expect fashion mash ups and get inspired.


My circle skirts are from Vivien of Holloway (Day of the Dead print) and Loving Youth X Topshop (plaid print). Modern Vintage Queens Vivien of Holloway have an endless supply of beautiful 1950s circle skirts and it's cool to see Loving Youth remade vintage is still available at Topshop concessions too!

Culottes Love

No Debutante Loves Culottes!!

 Culottes are brilliant! Is it a skirt? Is it trousers? Its both! Long or cropped lengths I love them all. I love Culottes!

It's safe to say culottes and wide leg trousers are my current obsession. I am always on the look out for new styles in different fabrics and lengths, a pair of long parallel wide legged jeans is something I need to own at the moment but, as yet, I have not found any available to buy. I don't want bell bottoms (unless they are the most flattering cut ever) it has to be a pair of long culotte style jeans, not ill fitting flares....so the search continues! 

My lovely culottes in today's personal style pics were purchased from The White Pepper and I have paired them up with oversized t-shirts which add to the volume of these wide legged beauties with lots of gathering around the nipped in waist. I have my eye on another pair of culottes from The White Pepper this time in a blue graphic print, so watch this space for more Culottes Love posts!

Today's looks are quite minimal and I went with simple styling since the Culottes alone make a bold statement. I'm sure in future posts you will see print clashes, modern vintage and fashion mash ups No Debutante style featuring my new favourite culottes.

 Culottes are so versatile and they are in every shop on the high street, so give them a try this summer!

Smocks Rock

Hi Fashionistas! Thanks for joining me for the last No Debutante blog post for March. I am ending this windy and wintry month with a smock dress post. You know how I love smock dresses, right? Well here's three ways I have worn them lately featuring my lovely polka-dot blue smock and my blue check smock from The White Pepper and the gingham Topshop smock. I do love wearing a contrasting pair of bright tights and these red lovelies have given a new lease of life to my pretty polka dot dress. I have always loved sixties styling and bright colour tights were a key item for all sixties chicks, not content with sticking to one era for inspiration I have mashed the look up with nineties Bjork topknots and modern vintage creepers and ankle socks. The second look is more nineties grunge still keeping the Bjork buns but wearing Dr Martens and denim cut offs with more contrasting red socks. The final look was worn on a trip to the cinema with my boys with a bomber jacket, platform boots and a single topknot.

Get Cosy in Chunky Knits

Hey hey Fashionistas! No Debutante is back. As my family life gets more and more hectic with my three speedily growing children taking up a lot of time with three music gradings, a first place in a swimming gala and a two broken braces under their belts, plus I managed to squeeze in time for a big awards ceremony at work and a rather amazing Russian Doll tattoo (watch this space for the pics) So, yes, its been rather busy and we still have three nights of a school performance of Peter Pan to contend with!

Finally, I have found a moment to catch up with my fashion correspondence and write a quick blog post. Today's moments of No Debutante fashion and fun feature chunky knits worn oversized and layered up. It's still freezing here in the UK and a big chunky knit is very much an essential wardrobe item! Here's how I've been wearing mine......

How No Debutante Wears A 1950s Circle Skirt

After a very busy weekend which involved DJing at my quarterly club night Bang and hanging out with my lovely cousins who had come to stay, I have finally been beaten, again, by a sickness bug. Well, I am not sick, I just feel like there is an elephant sat on my chest and although I do not have a sore throat, I have managed to totally lose my voice, which is not a useful thing lose when you are the mother of three excitable children, who can't seem to hear what you are saying at the best of times... Anyhoo, I am hopefully now on the mend and ready for some fashion blogging action. I have been liking and pinning all over the place on all social networking sites I follow for my love of all things from London Fashion Week. It is my favourite of all the Fashion weeks and I always tend to go for the more avant guarde Vs street style collections and London never fails to inspire me. Today's personal style looks include my Vivien Of Holloway 'Day of the Dead' print 1950s circle skirt. Midi skirts and dresses are all over the place at the moment in one guise or another but today I am rocking another Modern Vintage Mash up...Oversized T-shirts tucked into a 1950s circle skirt and worn with either 90s inspired platform boots or preppy Converse low tops. Wear with cute little cardigans and tights for the colder months and then lose both for the summer. Pretty versatile I'd say. What's next for No Debutante? Well, I am seeing this skirt worn with the oversized t-shirts but, to show off the skirts true potential and fullness, with a big petticoat under the skirt and perhaps some platform heels?? What do you think? Now to find the occasion to wear it....

Another Girl Another Planet

As my obsession for all things oversized continues, today I'm going to show you two ways I wear my oversized t-shirts. These two oversized Primark tees were bought back in the summer, when I wore them as dresses with bare legs and flat pumps, these oversized sportluxe lovelies also work in the colder months too, paired with 100 denier tights, platform boots and fur coat. 

Buy your t-shirts in the biggest size you can and for those of you who can't bring yourself to go oversized, look out for the longer length t-shirts that will continue to be in the shops for the next season or two.

Smock Dress Obsessed Part 3 - Riot Grrrl

Firstly I must apologise for the lack of blog posts I am managing to turn out each week, my latest count is a sad and lonely one post and despite having a million things I wanna share with you guys, time is not on my side! I don't mean I am running out of time, I literally have less and less time to myself lately! During the week I would often blog whilst my daughter had a nap, well that little missy doesn't take an afternoon nap anymore, so no free time for me! So why not blog in the evenings? Well, my two sons have kindly taken up more after school activities which means we are out later, don't eat until later and so it goes on.....Frustrations aside, I just wish I could blog more!! Boo!

Today we enter Part 3 of the Smock Dress Obsessed a week of wearing smock dresses challenge. I have a double whammy for you today, both smock dresses are from The White Pepper and were my first ever White Pepper purchases. I wanted to toughen the look up a bit with these outfits so I chose to pair them up with my cherry red Dr Martens. I love these boots with their bright yellow laces, unfortunately they really hurt my feet. I can't seem to break them in! I have no idea why as my other Dr Martens are really comfy! I really want to wear them more often ( I have had them for two years!!!) so you will be seeing more from the cherry red docs with bright yellow laces over the next year, I will not be defeated by a pair of Dr Martens! 

The look is a mix of 1990s grunge and Indie kid, cute and tough, a proper Riot Grrrl! ROAR!!
