My Mom Jeans!

I love my Topshop Mom jeans! They are a slim boyfriend style jean with a higher waist rather than a slouchy boyfriend waist and pretty much tick all my requirements in a pair of jeans. High waist? Tick. Not skinnies? Tick. Can be turned up at hem? Tick. Comfortable fit? Tick.
If there is one thing I cannot bear it is trousers falling off my arse or anything that creates muffin top, a look due to be a thing of the past, when people who have no business wearing low waisted skinnies stop wearing them and hopefully see the more flattering light of the likes of the Topshop Mom jeans! I guess it would help if people wouldn't insist on wearing a size smaller than they actually are, I really couldn't care what size my clothes are, I keep trying all the sizes on until I get the fit I am looking for. I know  people who refuse to buy a size over a certain size, they have a size limit, which I think is ridiculous. Who is actually looking at the size of your clothes and judging you? I choose to buy the 32" waist Mom jeans which makes these jeans a Size 14 in the UK, my measurements make me a Size 12  but I like to have a slightly looser fit in jeans and these fit me so well!

The Mom jeans are really flattering and are not too snug on the waist so look great with tucked in tops and even crop tops. I love the retro late 1980s / early 1990s look about them, it's refreshing after years of  skinnies and for me a different look from my vintage 1940s/50s jeans, which I still love, of course! I am pleased to see a lot of people (male and female) embracing the Mom style jeans, after the ocean of skinnies, it's been a long time coming!

Pastel Denim

Hey Hey Fashionistas! I thought I had better write a blog post to prove I haven't left the planet since it has been over a week since my last post. Sometimes I just need a little break and a holiday and I have just returned from a brilliant long weekend away on the South West coast of England with my family. We stayed in a converted barn in North Devon and drove the VW Van down to the Ilfracombe and Woolacombe beaches for body boarding and rock pooling in the wind and sunshine (a common mix of weather in the UK for this time of year) and although I am feeling happy, I am totally in pain from over doing it at body boarding, mental note to myself...I am not a professional body boarder....Owwwww! Great fun though!

Here's a look at some more personal style pics, I really can't write much as my hands and arms are genuinely aching! I'll soldier on though.....Today's pics feature alot of denim in pale shades and pastel colours. Both of the denim shirts were from Primark last year and the jeans were from Harajuku in Japan bought nearly five years ago on my honeymoon! Here are two ways I wear a denim shirt anyhoo and I love my Maxi skirt too, I keep forgetting I have it and really must wear it more!
My bright rainbow hair always fades to pastel shades after about a month which I also like, it's a semi permanent hair colour that just keeps on giving. Influenced by my personal original nineties style I like to pop my hair up into cute buns which, for me, during the nineties, were influenced by Bjork. I still love a Bjork hair bun now!

I am hoping to fit in another of my favourite Spring Summer 2014 designer collections for my next post, so watch this space and hope that the weather will now start to improve so we can actually wear these inspiring outfits!! Now, which designer collection to choose????

Thank you so much for reading and following!

No Debutante - For Victory!

I have found it so difficult to find the time for blogging lately, this weekend saw no time for catching up on anything since it was rammed with swimming & football lessons, school Christmas fairs and parties and Phil's band The Relay Rips (check them out here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB_YfXqcmVo  ) had a gig. We did find time to pick our Christmas tree from a local forestry which was very exciting and then the kids decorated it with as many decorations as they could possibly ram onto the tree. Minimal it is not! Happy Christmas!!

Finally I am back today with some more personal style pics. Both outfits are vintage inspired with a mix of 1940's land girls and 1950s style with a modern day rockabilly twist.

For Victory - In the first outfit I have gone for a land girl, work wear inspired look with my Freddies of Pinewood vintage style dungarees, sleeveless denim shirt, headscarf and to keep me warm my oversized cardigan and camouflage jacket, worn with my signature ankle socks and creepers.

Fifties Throwback  - The second outfit is a little more glam 1950s. I am wearing a breton tee, my tapered high waist jeans from Harajuku, Japan with my leopard print fur, the ankle socks and creepers again and I have wrapped my victory rolled hair up in a headscarf for more 1950s glamour.
I seemed to be quite camera happy for both shoots which means there are quite a few photographs to show you. I hope you like them. Which is your favourite look?? Hope  like The Relay Rips music video too!

OK kids, I don't mean to hurry you but there are only 14 days left to get your Christmas shopping done. Good Luck on your mission!

Thanks for reading and hello to my new followers, thanks for joining me!!
 See you later Fashionistas xx

No Debutante - G-Star Bristol

I met up with ladies wear specialist Carmen for the Dutch urban clothing label and raw denim specialists G-Star brand here in Bristol, a few weeks back, to have a chat and a look at the latest ladies wear collections in store. I am going to be doing a collaborations product post with G-star ladies to help promote the latest collections and to show you how I wear G-Star!

The one thing I noticed about G-star clothing is the attention to detail on pockets and trims, there are military influences that will always catch my attention since I am definitely a military and denim lover, what is not to like here?? The denim fabrics are tough but soft to wear and this makes a change from the flimsy denim fabrics used in other (nameless) high street stores that I have been accustomed to of late. Carmen took me on a shop tour and I wasted no time in getting some of these lovely products tried on for a quick in store photo shoot. I fell in love with the A-Crotch 3D loose tapered jeans, I spotted the shape and cut instantly and had to try them on. Carmen and the shop manager were insisting that I wore the jeans low on my hips, which I haven't done since I wore hipster jeans well over six years ago. I looked at it differently this time, as the A-Crotch jeans were tapered and not super skinny and this dismissed any ideas of a muffin top appearing!! I actually felt quite comfortable with the look and it was very different for me, which I like, I don't like to keep wearing the same styles for too long or to get stuck in a fashion rut, a change in style is good!! I paired the jeans with a couple of different sleeveless shirts chosen from the latest ranges ( a sleeveless shirt is a current favourite in my wardrobe at the moment) I wore the denim Tailor Custom sleeveless shirt with a knot detail and contrasting panels but my favourite was the Beach Rovic Palm sleeveless shirt with the all over khaki palm camouflage print, which I also tied in a knot - well it was still hot and sunny at the time, I'm sure I will be trying on jackets and knitwear when I go again in the near future!
I shall be styling the latest G-star collections up to show you how No Debutante wears G-Star and I shall attempt to wear those low slung A-crotch jeans 1950s pedal pusher style! Carmen would like to see how I would wear double denim and I would like to see how the G-Star staff would dress me, so lots going on which is very exciting!

I insisted on taking photographs of the G-Star staff who were dressed up in the latest G-Star ranges.
To my surprise the girls were wearing items from the men's wear collections and to be honest, they looked really cool, with their low slung jeans, a real androgynous tomboy style, proper boyfiend jeans, they looked great! I especially loved the double denim outfit, it was very reminiscent of 1980s skinhead style with turned up jeans and a  denim jacket in the same hue worn with polished boots and accessorised with a 1990s style skater chain and a topknot, a real mash up style which is right up my fashion street!
The whole look is available at G-Star as they produce everything from denim jeans to dresses and footwear and everything in between making their mark as high end, high street all rounders.

For those of you in the Bristol area there is an event taking place at the G-Star Cabot
Circus store in Bristol coming up in a couple of weeks, especially for all you lovely ladies out there who
are interested in the brand and would like to know more.
The G-star event is a women’s night promoting the A/W 2013 collections as well as the
extensive premium denim range, anyone who would like to join Carmen and
the G-Star Bristol team for an exclusive night with DJ’s, free hair, make-up and nail
treatments, drink and food to fill your belly and of course the chance to enjoy the
great new products as much as they do and even get a free goody bag too!! Invite
your friends along to the event. See the flyer below for more info!!! And if I see you
there don’t forget to come and say hello!

Do let me know if you need any extra info on G-star and the Bristol event and check out the latest ranges from G-Star here https://www.g-star.com/en_uk/

No Debutante - Fashion Magpie

I have seriously had one of the busiest weeks of my life this week, including one of the most brain frazzling days at work on Wednesday which I am still recovering from! I wanted to catch up with my personal style posts and thought I would attempt a short and sweet post for you today although it is already a bit image heavy!

Today's outfits are quite different from one another. The first outfit was worn to work and to the leaving party of my friend and manager Becky ( I miss you Becs!) I also popped into meet up with the girls from G-Star who I may be doing a collaboration with in the near future. My next personal style post will feature my visit to G-Star and what happened whilst I was there! Watch this space!!
I am wearing a bit of double denim the lace & denim sleeveless shirt which is from Primark and my tapered jeans from a shop in Harajuku, Japan worn with Converse and a headscarf. I have been really happy with the shirts that I bought from Primark for Spring Summer and I am looking forward to my Primark Sunday shop for Autumn Winter which is coming up very soon!! I already plan to find some new tartan / Grunge type long sleeve shirts but I am just looking forward to seeing the new ranges for the season!!

The second outfit was worn the day after Becky's leaving drinks, I had not had much sleep but still had to go to work, luckily I did not have a hangover!! My friend Rudi has bought a pair of leopard print leggings since she saw mine and I am currently trying to persuade her to by some dungarees!! Anyhoo, Rudi wore her leopard print leggings to Becky's leaving do which inspired me to wear mine again.
I am a total fashion magpie and if I spot someone wearing something I like, it sits in my brain and usually influences my outfit a few days later. I take inspiration from the street, different images I see, films, the high street and filter it to suit my style and then add lots of accessories! That's how I roll and that's where the mish mash looks come from!
I am wearing an XL Specials tee and my H&M leggings with flip flops. I haven't worn flip flops since I went camping a few weeks ago, I am hoping this weekend that I will get to wear them one last time before Autumn kicks in here in the UK. I have accessorised the look up with my H&M head scarf and Tatty Devine initial necklace and wore my hair in Bjork buns, a look I was very keen on back in 1993!

The next post will definitely be from one of my favourite designer shows from the Autumn Winter collections. I pretty much own versions of all the garments from the  collection so it will be real easy for me to covet and showing you how you can too without splashing out on designer labels!

Hello to my new followers and thanks to everyone for reading xx

No Debutante - Vintage Queen

It was back to work for me today and I loved it that I could wear sleeveless tops and a skirt with no tights on my morning trek, the sun was shining and I, almost, didn't even mind the walk!
After work I popped into Topshop to see if there were any shoes that caught my eye, I wasn't expecting much since I had had no luck in Topshop on finding a dress for Dawn's wedding, I found some shoes almost instantly and although I still have no idea whether they will actually go with the dress, I had to have them!! I was wearing my frilly ankle socks and they looked real cute with the new shoes, so this could be another addition to the outfit!! I am, however, a bit worried about the length of my dress as it's pretty short, which is fine with tights but on a hot day and possibly no tights, I shall have to remember to be a bit more ladylike when picking little Sylvie up and generally bending over! I am still such a tomboy and forget these things!!

Here are the outfits from this Tuesday and Wednesday. Sylvie Belle would not let me put her down in yesterdays photos (first outfit) and I have to tell you about the denim pinafore I am wearing today (second outfit). It was another of our attic finds (clothes Phil and I had hoarded over the years) I bought this dress from a festival when I was 18 years old back in the 1990s, I love hoarding clothes!! I put a big victory roll in my hair today and got lots of compliments on it and three colleagues who want me to put one in their hair. I, of course, said 'yes' I love styling peoples hair up for them, see, I'm not all tomboy y'know!  Watch out for more exciting news at the end of the post!!

So, I got another email from WIWT and I have won another Editors Choice Award!! Yippee!! See the winning outfit below and follow me on WIWT and sign yourself up too. http://wiwt.com/user/NoDebutante/ Thank you WIWT!!!

No Debutante - Pump It Up

It is so sunny outside and I have just got the baby to bed and done a few house chores and I am actually longing to get outside in the sunshine, so here's a quick personal style post from me where you can find out what I wore on the family excursion to see Elvis Costello (first outfit) on Sunday evening and what I wore yesterday on the first day back on the school run. I'm still wearing denim, there are infinite combinations although it appears I cannot stop wearing those dungarees, they're back again!! Expect more big hair, ankle socks and wedge boots!

I'm off to get me some sun before the baby wakes up. BTW I'm still no closer in getting shoes and accessories for this wedding, Baby girls like trips to the Mall don't they?

Thanks for reading y'all.

No Debutante - Get Lucky

Here's today's personal style post featuring two more outfits from the past week worn whilst I was in Bournemouth. The first outfit features a bit of double denim and the photo was taken in the coolest Retro kitchen display in Poole Museum and I wanted most of it's contents for my new kitchen!! It was pouring with rain outside so the museum seemed the best choice of activities and we had already visited Bournemouth pier and seafront the day before in the glorious sunshine. The lighting was a bit poor in the museum so we only managed to get one un-blurred usable photograph of the double denim outfit!

The second outfit was worn on the day we were coming home but detoured through Moors Valley Country Park and ended up staying there for hours, I was not really dressed for the occasion and ended up piling on the layers and changing my shoes as a pretty dress and studded pumps didn't really suit a walk in the muddy woods! The kids loved it there and it was great to spend all day outside. If I get time I will try and do a lifestyle post on our time in Bournemouth as we have lots of great images of the kids climbing trees and having fun on fair rides whilst I carried the coats....When did I become that person??
After the personal style images I will let you know about the cool news that I received from the WIWT site.

So, after joining less than a week ago, on Tuesday I received an email from WIWT.
Basically, I have won an Editors choice award and my winning outfit is currently appearing on their home page, with a selected few other personal style pics, as one of the Favourite outfits of the day!! No Debutante - Terminal Preppy

I have a dress for the wedding!! I found it in the first and only shop I went in, which was an unusual choice for me, the perfect dress is from.......Zara!?! I am not going to reveal the dress until the day of the wedding (that's just over two weeks) but I will reveal that the dress is floral, has an open back and has a flippy skater skirt, it is a very similar shape to the Topshop dress that I already own and it has pockets! Phil, thinks I am obsessed with pockets, I had to text him to tell him about the pockets whilst I was stood in the (very long) queue paying for the dress. It's all very exciting! I also got a pair of silky sportsluxe floral shorts for my hols, so I am feeling rather happy with my shopping successes.

Here's today's outfit, I wanted to wear my tapered jeans from Japan and the rest of the outfit followed. It's a bit of a 1950s preppy look dragged through the 1980s and into the present day, that's covering three decades in one outfit! Nice!

Right, that's the dress sorted.......now there really is the problem of the accessories......Oh Jeez!!!

Thanks for reading my blog and watch this space to see what happens next.......Do I need new earrings?........Which shoes?......The wedding outfit saga continues........
