The A-Line

The A-line skirt has been around for a few seasons and is one of my favourite items from the 90s revival.
The 90s A-line skirt was worn short and mainly came in denim or corduroy with some cute pastel cotton versions thrown in. It was mainly worn with skinny t-shirts and long sleeve ribbed tops, the A-line got a bit more of a midi shape by the end of the 90s but the 90s short version is the one currently seeing a revival.
Seperates are always so versatile and the A-line skirt is a great item to own that will see you all through the year, layered up with tights, jumpers and boots during the winter months or with a t-shirt and bare legs in the summer. The A-line skirt works with every type of shoe too from the 90s favourite Dr Martens and old school trainers, chunky boots and sandels to this summers big thing (worn with sports socks), sliders, it's an all-rounder, like a pair of jeans.
My A-line skirt is denim and was bought from Topshop a couple of years ago, you can still get them everywhere, Urban Outfitters has a lot of really cute A-lines at the moment. Wear yours with a striped skinny polo neck on cold days then swap for a swap skinny tee for the summer.
Here's how I wear my denim A-line skirt all year round....No Debutante styleeee.

Summer In The City

The A-line denim skirt is the perfect summer in the city item for this summer. These A-line denim beauties are everywhere, wear yours with a 70s style floral shirt or a (more contemporary) oversized crop top ,with a tucked in vest top in high summer or No Debutante style with a tucked in t-shirt. (None of this wearing your fitted t-shirt over the waist of the skirt please, this is not a flattering look, damn it show of that waist!!).

Here are a few ways I wear my denim A-line skirts and the summer hasn't even kicked in yet, expect more from these beauties over the next months. No I hadn't realised that I kept wearing my yellow Gang of Four t-shirt, this was a random coincidence! I am also wearing a pair of white jelly shoes in the first outfit which were given to me by a work colleague who didn't want them. I will never turn down a pair of free shoes!! Which is your favourite look??

Girls Gone Wild.......Nineties Inspired T-shirts and Denims

A look that was popular with No Debutante last week was t-shirts and denims, mainly skate or surf labelled t-shirts worn with a bit of nineties denim.

The first outfit inspired by nineties layering and the BMX sports wear inspired Marc By Marc Jacobs collection (see last image below) by the street style queens Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley. Worn with a skinny long sleeve tee underneath my Vision Streetwear tee and the very nineties inspired short a-line denim skirt, platform ankle boots and braided hair to finish the look. A very No Debutante take on the look I'm sure you'll agree!
Don't follow.....Get inspired people!

The second outfit also screams the nineties with an oversize Maui tee worn untucked over my tapered Mom jeans with spotty ankle socks, creeper shoes and a grungey oversized cardigan layered over the top. This is more of an androgynous look that anyone can rock despite the oversized and unfitted nature of the outfit.

Platform ankle boots and creeper heeled shoes were massive in the early nineties and it looks like they are here to stay for the next couple of seasons......an investment well worth making for this Winter!!! Plus for any of you who are still rocking skinny jeans and god forbid jeggings please put them aside and reach for the tapered jeans, boyfriend jeans and 1950s style jeans, wear them on or above the waist and turned up at the hem. Don't be afraid, they are more flattering than you think!

All clothing from Vision Streetwear, Topshop, Underground at Office and Primark.

Today Is Her Birthday

Today is not my birthday and yesterday it was the No Debutante blogs' birthday, back in June it was my birthday and today's post shows you some lovely goodies that I was lucky enough to purchase using some birthday gift vouchers! These vouchers were burning a hole in my pocket so I had to rush down to Topshop and see what I could find and even luckier for me the sale was on! I managed to bag myself two items the first being my new favourite dress. It's a gingham smock dress. I have been wanting a smock dress ever since I fell in love with The White Pepper summer range over a month ago. I really must show you my favourites from the summer range but for now check it out for yourself here. I think you will agree that my new Topshop smock dress is very similar but as it was in the sale I couldn't resist it!
The second item is a denim skater skirt which has a real 1970s look to it, I am really getting back into the seventies (again) it's been a while but it's definitely gonna be big again very soon! I like to wear my denim skirt with tucked in t-shirts and crop tops. I have been wearing shorts under my short dresses and skirts lately as I am such a tomboy and forget how short they are! In the winter months I always have 100 denier tights to hide behind but in the summer it has to be shorts! When buying these items I had a kindly shop assistant tell me my skirt was tucked up,(a regular occurrence for me, obviously) thankfully I was wearing my trusty shorts.....You see my predicament!

All clothing from Topshop, Vision Streetwear and Converse
