New Denims

Denim is big this season and perfect transitional fashion, here are the No Debutante faves of the season.....

Geek Chic Cuts
From geeky half mast crops to extended turned up hems the jeans cut continues to stay creative and fun in dark indigo shades to retro stonewash fades there, is a lot to choose from. Check out Ader Error and Unif for alternative style inspo

The Ultimate Denim Jacket
It's not just about jeans, the denim jacket is still around in vintage oversized, shearling style denims or jackets updated with added ruffles and embroideries as seen at Monki.

Boys in Blue
The crop Dickies style jean is popular with the boys this season from 80s stonewash, 70s patchwork or 90s indigo's, whatever your preferred decade from the catwalk fashionistas to street style lovers, it has to be cropped or turned up this winter, preferably with a pair of white sports socks underneath.

Jumpsuits are here to stay
With dungarees looking as strong as ever, the denim boilersuit has confidently become this seasons dare to wear staple. Not just for the brave the denim boilersuit comes in fitted styles, is super comfy and will keep you warm over the colder months, wear yours with a colourful poloneck underneath, same goes for those jumpsuits and dungarees.

Boilersuit from Urban Outfitters & Cute oversized jumpsuit from Monki

Retro Inspo
With retro sportswear and streetstyle heavily influencing and inspiring the catwalks, the sportswear styling has now made it to denim jeans with go faster stripes at Monki to a 1970s vibe added to styling with Adidas gazelles and sports tops and that shearling style denim jacket, denim styled  up with brights colours and stripes are a looking good this winter.

Debutante Denims
From an oversized denim slip and tasseled crop jeans from Monki to vintage cut 1950s jeans from Vivien of Holloway, these pieces will see me through all through the winter with added long sleeve tops, jackets, warm socks, Dr Martens and perhaps a little bit of double denim. Watch this space!

My Mom Jeans!

I love my Topshop Mom jeans! They are a slim boyfriend style jean with a higher waist rather than a slouchy boyfriend waist and pretty much tick all my requirements in a pair of jeans. High waist? Tick. Not skinnies? Tick. Can be turned up at hem? Tick. Comfortable fit? Tick.
If there is one thing I cannot bear it is trousers falling off my arse or anything that creates muffin top, a look due to be a thing of the past, when people who have no business wearing low waisted skinnies stop wearing them and hopefully see the more flattering light of the likes of the Topshop Mom jeans! I guess it would help if people wouldn't insist on wearing a size smaller than they actually are, I really couldn't care what size my clothes are, I keep trying all the sizes on until I get the fit I am looking for. I know  people who refuse to buy a size over a certain size, they have a size limit, which I think is ridiculous. Who is actually looking at the size of your clothes and judging you? I choose to buy the 32" waist Mom jeans which makes these jeans a Size 14 in the UK, my measurements make me a Size 12  but I like to have a slightly looser fit in jeans and these fit me so well!

The Mom jeans are really flattering and are not too snug on the waist so look great with tucked in tops and even crop tops. I love the retro late 1980s / early 1990s look about them, it's refreshing after years of  skinnies and for me a different look from my vintage 1940s/50s jeans, which I still love, of course! I am pleased to see a lot of people (male and female) embracing the Mom style jeans, after the ocean of skinnies, it's been a long time coming!

All clothing from Topshop, H&M, Primark, Undergound at Office and Tatty Devine.

Heavy Denim

Let's take a break from me and what I have been wearing for a day and take a look at some more images that I have been hoarding on my ongoing obsession with Pinterest. These images are taken from my Fashion Board find them here (and if you like my blog then please start following me on Pinterest too!) http://pinterest.com/nodebutante/fashion/ I seem to have a continuous obsession with denim, as you can probably tell by my personal style posts, the cut and style of all my denim items adapt and change with each season (and my fickle obsessions) but denim will always remain a favourite. I have chosen a few of my favourite images from Pinterest that I have collected from various blogs, Asos fashion finder and other pinners so you can see what I am currently obsessing over and want to own!

I love the baggy culotte style denim shorts, I want them!

Braces and boyfriends

Oversized denim cut offs

Dungarees with the bib worn down 90s style

Tapered Jean Girl - Step away from the skinnies, it’s over!

I am declaring that I will not buy another pair of skinny jeans, my relationship with them is over……for now….I worked out that I have been wearing skinny jeans for well over 10 years…..ever since I stepped away from my Miss Sixty stylee hipster flared jeans in the very early 2000s and declared I would not buy another pair, well I stuck to my word there, thank goodness…..
I really am bored of skinnies and despite my really loving them for many years, I now cannot stand them! It was at the point that the Jegging was invented that I decided enough is enough! I have never owned a pair of bloody Jeggings and if I wanted to wear a really tight pair of lycra trousers I would just wear a pair of leggings??? Who is with me here?
Anyhoo, I have been purchasing tapered and 1950s cut jeans over the past 4 years and have totally embraced them, so much so that it has become a current / ongoing obsession to collect images of them on Pinterest over the past year. Here a few images of mostly 1950s style jeans from vintage to new styles cut from old vintage patterns. I really recommend getting a pair, with their high waistbands and turned up hems, yes they are totally different shape to what you’re used to but hey, they are so cool, rock’n’roll and make you feel like you could probably win a Lindy-Hop competition when wearing them…….

So, did you like what you see?? Get you’re here http://www.freddiesofpinewood.co.uk/ and http://www.vivienofholloway.com/
All images from my pinterest Fashion board http://pinterest.com/nodebutante/fashion/ and were originally sourced from vivienofholloway.com and Freddiesofpinewood.co.uk (including the fantastic vintage photographs) I think Freddies Of Pinewood may be becoming one of my current obsessions!
This is a jeans related quote from a lovely man and fellow colleague from the now deceased Venue Magazine (God, rest her soul!) where I somehow still work! Now I will say this story was told under the influence of alcohol but I loved it and it has stuck with me ever since.
‘I had a friend from New York back in the 1970s, who came over to England to visit, when she arrived she asked’ why are you all still wearing flares here? Nobody wears flares in New York anymore, they wear skinny jeans’ I was confused and asked ‘what’s wrong with flares? I love my flares and will never stop wearing them!’……But slowly……. after a period of time I found myself wearing skinny jeans, I didn’t know how it happened or why I didn’t wear flares anymore. I was annoyed about it for sometime………..’
I'm not sure whether the person who told the story would like me to name him on my blog….not that he is likely to be reading my blog (please feel free leave a comment if you do)…..I just love the story though, It just about sums up how fickle and powerful fashion really can be! Now go get them jeans!! ND xx
