No Debutante - Short Shorts

As Christmas gets closer and closer I have no idea how many blog posts I will manage to get finished before the big day comes. I like to hang out with my family on Christmas Eve watching Christmas films, I am not a happy kitten if I still have a ton of wrapping and organising to get done, last year we were still decorating on Christmas Eve and I only saw a bit of one film! Rubbish!! I'm glad to say that, so far, we are on schedule for a whole day of lazing about before Santa comes for my three (very excited) kids in a weeks time! The Christmas decorations are up, at least!

Today's personal style post mainly features my legs! I was in the mood for shorts despite the cold weather arriving and god damn it I was gonna wear 'em. A friend said, I made her feel cold which is ironic since my husband Phil says that I obsess over people not wrapping up enough in cold weather, for example every kid at the boys' school refuses to put a coat on (I am shaking my head at the thought of it) and Phil always wears the most flimsy of jackets over short sleeves during the colder months, he is NOT allowed to say he is cold in case I start to tell him off about his lack of warm layers! You get the idea...

Both outfits are based on a similar look of shorts, shirts and creeper shoes but are worn differently. The first outfit features my new favourite plaid / tartan shirt. Which is it tartan or plaid? It's annoying me that I can't decide! The look is a bit tomboy rockabilly and the denim shorts are so short they are barely visible under the untucked shirt. I popped on my oversized cardigan and some sports socks (to keep me warm, of course) and everything except the footwear is from Primark! I have put my hair up in the half victory roll half back down 1940s/ 50s style that has been dubbed a mullet by a few people. I heard mullets are making another comeback this Spring Summer but I shall stick with styling my hair into this mullet over going for the good ol' on top crop!

The second outfit is a bit more girlie and features my Topshop playsuit and denim shirt with the creepers and frilly ankle socks. I have twisted and victory rolled up my hair into another of the endless rockabilly hairstyles that I like to covet! I love having long hair!

The next post, which will hopefully be before Christmas, will be something different from the personal style posts of late (but I imagine it will feature me at some point) Watch this space for a post on a G-Star event that I attended back in the Autumn!

Thanks so much for reading and I shall be back as soon as possible!!

No Debutante - One Shirt Two Ways

Here's a look at two of the ways I wear my plaid shirt. The shirt is from Primark and a new favourite item of mine. Both looks are pretty much rockabilly in style and the first outfit was the most popular on Instagram. Which look do you like the most?

For the first and most popular outfit I have paired the shirt with a crop top, 1950s Vivien of Holloway jeans and creepers with red ankle socks, I do not co-ordinate accessories on purpose, I just like red!

The second and more quirky outfit I have worn the plaid shirt with a vest top, skater skirt and creepers worn with American Apparel tube socks. I do love swallow necklaces don't I? It's no wonder I ended up with swallow tattoos!

Today I had one of those days when I actually got stuff done, achieved a thing or two and now I have managed to write a blog post. I am feeling rather pleased with myself.

Thanks for reading!

No Debutante - She's Like a Rainbow

It's been raining over the past few days here in the UK and it's getting cold, grey and miserable so let's cheer ourselves up by wearing rainbow creeper shoes and colouring our hair pink.....well.....er....that's what I'm gonna do....I hope I can bring some sunshine back into your day with my next personal style post!

I wore the first outfit out to a Sunday night gig to watch my friend Nic's band The Afterparty, who frankly rocked it! I was one of the oldest people in the room and felt a little out of place, not because of my age, i really couldn't give a damn about that, but even I thought I may have over dressed for a Sunday night gig. Looking back at the photographs today the outfit seems to be pretty standard for a No Debutante outfit so I'm not sure why I was secretly feeling a bit insecure, perhaps it was the Canadian support band who I heard say something about the UK fashion being crazy and way ahead of Canada, I'm sure this isn't true, although I don't know any Canadians personally. Can any Canadian followers validate this for me?? I have come to the conclusion that my short lived insecurities actually came from the fact that I was wearing my ridiculous rainbow creeper shoes that make me tower over most people, I think the only people who were intimidated on this night were the tiny sixteen year old Scene and Emo girls, bless them, I must have been terrifying! Check out my Topshop airforce bomber jacket, it has taken me half a year to find the perfect bomber and there it was in Toppers all along!

The second outfit has a more preppy 1950s high school look, I am wearing my peoples favourite (everyone loves this top) Primark vintage Americana Prada copy top with the classic Vivien of Holloway 1950s jeans worn with leopard print cardigan (also Primark) frilly socks and Converse. I was very comfortable in this outfit, 1950s preppy is always a winner. I wore my pink hair up in a topknot for a couple of days, it's simple yet looks cool. I apologise for the cropped off feet on the second outfit, I must have been in a hurry when I took the photographs, at least I took a still of the footwear so you can actually see what was on my feet!!

Thank you for following and reading my blog, it means alot to me!!

I will attempt to get more posts up this week but there is still lots of renovation work going on in my house which is proving hard to work around! Perhaps another personal style post to follow, watch this space!

No Debutante - Oh Mickey, You're so fine

Oh Mickey, you're so fine, you're so fine, you blow my mind....Hey Mickey!

Here's a short and sweet post of one of my personal style outfits, it didn't really go with any other outfits I wore around the same time and was pretty casual for me in denim cut offs, tube socks, Converse and my Mickey Mouse sweatshirt. The look is inspired by 1980s sports styling and 1970s skaters.

I have a feeling that I am going to struggle to do much blogging over the next few days due to being  busy packing up my kitchen to get it's retro caravan kitchen diner makeover which is starting next week! I'm half excited and half terrified as we do not really know how long we won't have a kitchen for! I am also attending the G-Star event on Friday so let me remind any Bristolians to get over to the Bristol G-Star store in the Cabot Circus between 5.30-8pm to receive goodie bags, free nails and hair make overs and view the latest ladies wear ranges!! I'll see you there!

No Debutante - RIP Bodycon

Hello Fashionistas! It's time for another personal style blog, I've had a busy week of settling back into doing school runs, attending the wedding of my favourite local illustrators Peskimo, check them out here http://www.peskimo.com and watching my mates band The Afterparty check them out here https://www.facebook.com/theafterpartyofficial. You have to plug creative friends!!

Today's outfits are quite different and I have very different opinions on both! I wore the first outfit on a day trip to Bristol Museum with my kids which included Egyptian mummy's tombs, Dinosaur bones and a lot of taxidermy, which makes for a curious day! Not one to dress down for any occasion I wore a Breton top, denim cut offs, frilly ankle socks and my Underground brothel creepers. I had a couple of days of wearing my fringe long, think it worked on the first day (worn with the headscarf) the whole of the second outfit wasn't doing it for me!
The outfit in question included my sleeveless denim shirt, bodycon dress (worn underneath), sports socks and Dr Marten boots. I am loving the boots with the socks and the grunge element to the outfit, the problem on this particular day was the bodycon dress, I think I am just totally over bodycon, I have been wearing it for years, even when others were not wearing bodycon, I have been bodycon obsessed for a long time. Like the skinny jeans, I am completely over it now! I am glad this has happened it means I have comfortably moved onto a new look, I told you I am very fickle but I will wear a thing to death if I love it! The other problem was the dress kept on riding up and literally showing my pants, I had to wear my jacket round my waist on the work commute! RIP bodycon...

Even fashion obsessives have their off days and don't know what to wear!! Mine usually happen when I am in a hurry or if I am attending an event and have not considered what to wear before hand, my brain goes to mush and fashion errors are made!!
Do I ever get up and not have a clue what to wear and just bung something on?? Never! Do you? If the answer is 'yes' I admire you but I would personally miss the challenge of putting an outfit together.

Does anyone prefer the second outfit?? Answers on a postcard to ' No Debutante, I prefer the other one'.

Thanks for reading xx

No Debutante - Levitate Me

I am very excited to be DJing tonight at my club night Bang, here in Bristol, it's been a while!! As some of you will know Bang was ten years old this year and we celebrated with a big Bang party back in February, check out the big Bang party here http://no-debutante.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/bang-is-10-10-years-of-your-new.html  I run Bang with my husband Phil and brother Mike, we play alternative indie and 80s, new wave, ska, 50s rock'n'roll, 60s garage, glam, punk and Northern Soul and we rock! These days we put on a Bang event four times a year, I have too many kids and too little time to run a club night every month like we did for the first 8 years of Bang! I promise to write a post on how the night went, what we wore, who was there and what we got up to very soon. Bang on!

I have been away for a few days from my personal style posts so here's me looking rather tanned on the first days back in  Bristol after my amazing Ibiza holiday.
So, what did I wear?

The first outfit, is my new favourite Coca-Cola crop top and the H&M skater skirt worn with American Apparel tube socks and red Converse, I have loved 1970s skate style for years and I love wearing tube socks Tony Alva style! I am, of course, doing an ollie in the photograph below and my Penny board is just out of shot (ahem).
The second outfit shows the return of the vintage denim pinafore dress, worn with a crop top and the Converse again.  Look closely at the first photograph of this outfit, I saw a fellow blogger, the lovely Aiko from Hapy Friends Shoppe blog do this levitation style pose on her blog http://hapyshoppe.blogspot.co.uk, so I thought I'd give it a go. it is not an easy thing to jump and keep your face in a posed position so the fact that I managed to pull this shot off pleased me. The photograph freaked my kids out, who believed I was actually levitating!
Which outfit do you prefer?

I shall be back with more personal style and lifestyle posts plus I have a few new product review posts in the pipeline, so lots going on!

Thank you so much for following and reading.

No Debutante - White Wedding

I spent ages yesterday evening trawling through websites to find a dress or at least some inspiration for a dress to wear to my sister-in-law Dawn's wedding. With less than three weeks until the big day, I have to admit, I am struggling! As much as I love buying new clothes and creating outfits, I am out of my comfort zone with formal wear and the etiquette that goes with it, a biggy for me is - Do not stand out (too much) in the wedding photographs, I always dress to the extreme and having to reign it in is a challenge!!
I feel a little uninspired since I am not just purchasing an outfit because I really like it,I am now buying it in desperation!! There is lots of pressure to find this outfit within a couple of weeks, why didn't I look for it sooner?? Well, as you know, us fashionistas are a fickle bunch and I would probably have gone off the outfit by the time I had to wear it. Where's the logic here? There isn't any!
I did consider another Vivien of Holloway dress but I already have two (one being my own wedding dress)and I can't wear my wedding dress to my sister-in-laws wedding!
You can see I'm having a fashion dilemma here, so, I opted for good ol' Topshop to help me through this hard time, only to find that the one dress I liked, I already have and it isn't very wedding like, but then, neither am I! Perhaps I shall go with this dress then????
But, I want a new dress (stamps her feet like a spoilt child)!!!
I have decided to go on a search for a dress during my lunch break from work, I am always up for shopping!! I shall keep you updated on my wedding outfit progress and shall hopefully have a new dress for the wedding!!

Here are today's personal style pics, they have received two likes from complete strangers on Instagram this morning, which pleases me. This techno-doofus is getting the hang of all this hash tag malarkey! Now to get that Instagram widget up on the blog!

I have actually managed to wear my leopard print Dr Martens today, I've had them ages and only worn them once!! Still on the skinhead style inspiration, I've paired them with my American apparel sports socks, oversized denim cut offs and my Specials t-shirt. I went for a bit of backcombing in the hair today worn with a pink head scarf.

No Debutante - Holidays and Candy Floss

I am still working the Bernhard Willhelm SS 2013 look, with a maxi dress, long sports socks and high top hidden wedge boots, I have chosen to wear a plain vest over the Madonna print (and to hid the low cut front) but to stop things looking too plain (and very un-No Debutante-like) I popped on my new favourite denim waistcoat to layer it up a bit, Grunge style.
It is my night off everything tonight, despite wanting to do a thousand things, all the time!! Phil and I are also deciding on our family holiday destination for the Summer holidays TONIGHT!! Very exciting!!! I wanna start packing now!!  Let's celebrate it's now wine o’clock!!!

 Happy Thursdays!

Thanks so much for reading my blog!!

No Debutante - My Little Pony

I am very excited to show you the first images of my new pink hair colour! I have opted for the crazy colour candy floss pink all over on this occasion and I am rather happy with it! I wanted a bit more of the brighter pink colour and now have a bright pink section through the middle and another underneath at the back which will be more visable when I wear my hair up. I thought I would go for the grungy down look today to show off the new colour, which I am loving!!! Thank you Vikki Mac!!

Today's outfit was inspired by Bernhard Wilhelm's SS 2013 collection ( take a look here http://no-debutante.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/bernhard-willhelm-ss-13-hey-whats-up.html)
I took elements from it including pleated maxi skirts, sports socks and high tops. I wore my Primark pleated Maxi skirt and a crop top with my Topshop hidden wedge boots and some American Apparel sports socks. Of course, I would have preferred not to wear the extra layers (tights. jackets and a long vest) but the weather is still shocking here in Bristol, it's cold and wet! Boo!!! So, I wasn't completely happy with the overall look but I still rocked it, pacing two miles an hour through Bristol in those (not very practical for walking in) hidden wedge boots!

Most of the comments about my new hair colour were positive ones, my friend Abbie referred to me as a Care Bear (which I took as a compliment) I did come to the conclusion I was, really, more of a My Little Pony, with my lovely pink mane. I think Abbie wanted to put plastic hair clips in it and brush it with a tiny plastic brush. Talking of animals with pink hair look what that crazy bitch Vikki Mac did to her dog with my hair colour! I would say it was cruel if that dog hadn't just sat there when she did it, like she has it done every week (She probably does! Ahem!).
