2019 - You got this!

Hello fashionistas!

I thought I'd start this years blogging off with a  lil' No Debutante fashion catch up post.

I had a year of slow fashion in 2018 where I tried, real hard, to buy less and more wisely, I feel much happier that I have stopped my fast fashion fads and that I don't really follow trends the way I (obsessively) used to, but honestly, it's hard to promote independent designers without wanting to wear all of their clothes!

The amazing Lucy and Yak 'Frankie' boilersuit £65 and worth every penny!

I managed to justify my fashion obsessions and yearnings for more clothes by trying to wait until Christmas, where I gently popped a few independent designers names onto my Christmas list to Santa, who kindly bought me a much wanted Lucy and Yak boilersuit in turquoise blue! I have the longest upper body and was very scared it wouldn't fit me but it does.....just! I am already eyeing up the pink boilersuit! Stay focused No Debutante!

Going wild in faux furs and animal prints
A fun contrast against all the pastels and bright colours!

I also got some much needed new trainers, after I realised I haven't bought any new trainers for a couple of years! My shoe of choice is the Nike Air Force 1 Jester XX, which I literally haven't stopped wearing since I got them! I love them!

I did crack in my slow fashion buying just before Christmas, when I met the lovely Lulu Harrison, designer at the supercute fashion brand Balulu, for a Bristol 24/7 article and left with a Balulu Mickey jacket and dungaree co-ord. Everyone loves that co-ord! It was the right decision.....

Read My Lips -  One of the supercute Lazy Oaf jumper dresses

The second slow fashion slip up was the Lazy Oaf sale! I just had a little peek over the holidays and couldn't resist two (aargh!) oversized jumper dresses, both are pink and super cute. I know I will wear them for years, like all my other Lazy Oaf buys, so it's completely justified!

From independent designers to new trainers and spray dyed galaxy pastel hair, it's all been happening in No Debutante's world! Mostly in pastels!

Pastel obsessions

The other pink Lazy Oaf dress. Super cuddly and warm with a hood, bell sleeves and a burger print.

My pastel galaxy hair by Girl On Curl a fun experiment that actually worked!

Kawaii feels - Lazy Oaf cardigan, polka dot Monki trousers and retro kawaii tee from Tokyo.

Those Nike Air Force 1 Jesters haven't been off my feet!

My guilty pleasure and Christmas day outfit! The Balulu Mickey Mouse co-ord!

Print clash winter fash

The colder it gets the more I want to wear bright colours & bold prints, with the big chill upon us, let's look how we can style up prints, colours & layers this long winter, No Debutante style.

My style is quirky, I throw stuff together to see if it works & mostly it does. I do not take my styling too seriously & I often get inspiration from designers & people who are equally as quirky. It makes for a fun world!

I have been on the look out for printed trousers lately, it is my current obsession. I had some lucky finds at Monki with the polka-dot & striped trousers (see below for these bold printed gems) & today I have resurrected my leopard print leggings (purchased at H&M about 5 years ago).

Leopard print has been all over the AW 2018 fashion shows but I seriously overdid leopard print a few years back, I ended up with a tonne of leopard print everythings, which then put me off it, too much of a good thing really can be too much! It's been a few years now & I have decided to let leopard print back in to life....just a little.....

No Debutante loves these Monk polka-dot trousers paired up with the Fruit Salad red batwing crop hoodie

Bringing leopard print back with print clashed styling & lots of layers

Pirate inspo - Monki stripe trousers worn with an oversized Fruit Salad long sleeve tee

Everyones fave - The amazing polka-dot jumpsuit from The White Pepper

Winter Wonderland

It seems like winter never ends here in the UK, with snow on the horizon temperatures are set to plummet. For years I refused to give in to winter, I hated it & found it very restricting fashionwise but the last few years it has come as a surprise to me that I don't mind winter, I almost look forward to a bit of winter fashion & masses of layering! Don't get me wrong, I still wear a lot of what some would call 'summer items', I manage to make (most of) my wardrobe work all year round & layering is the key. An array of coats, jackets & faux furs certainly help to keep the winter blues away, keeping you warm and stylish through those chilly months. By just experimenting with different coats and hats you can keep your look fresh instead of wearing the same coat for the whole winter. Don't forget to add pops off colour too, the weather may be dull but you are not!

Here's a few of the No Debutante outfits from winter 2018. My colour scheme is unusually co-ordinated for me this winter with monochromes, candy pinks, bright red & cyan blues being the colours of choice, alongside oversized tops, culottes, velvets, mesh dresses, cute prints & my new favourite pink Monki beanie.

Cuddly layers, keeping it cute with pink colour blocks

Beating the winter blues by layering up a t-shirt & a sheer dress

Oversized winter reds

Layered up mesh dresses

Fun polka-dot & heart print layers

ND in NYC

At the beginning of February I went to New York with my husband Phil to celebrate his 40th Birthday (so we are both 40 this year, how did this happen?) we stayed at NobleDen on Grand Street in between Little Italy and China Town. A cool and modern place to stay Downtown with a view of the Empire state building from our window. A perfect base for our first ever visit to New York and highly recommended.

Places visited
Staten island / Statue of Liberty
Highline
MOMA
Time Square
Ace Hotel
Otto's Shrunken Head
911 Memorial and Museum
Central Park
Central park Zoo
Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn Banks
Ellen's Stardust Diner
5th Avenue
East Village

Shops
Y3
Urban Outfitters
Shut Skateboards
Labor Skateshop
Opening Ceremony
Wesc
Stussy
Sanrio
Uniqlo
Toy Tokyo

A random and personal itinerary of places visited, all unique to our favourite things including fashion, kawaii, skate, art, toys, brilliant eateries including traditional American diners, Thai, Mexican and Italian restaurants, modern hipster cafes and bars, a Tiki cocktail bar playing all of our favourite music, plus many of New York's famous landmarks.

Fashion-wise, New York is freezing in February so lots of warm clothes and layering are essential. My life savers were my Topshop faux fur hunters hat and coat, polo necks, oversized jumpers and fleece lined tights! I enjoyed extreme layering and pretty much got it right despite the freezing temperatures, I was warm, comfortable and looked good. I was glad I could dress up in my usual city style mash up, most holidays I go on are either in family orientated hot Mediterranean or English seaside towns, where my style is usually met with confusion!

New York, I love you! I could honestly live in New York, we met some lovely people and characters and I will definitely be back. Miss you already xx

We met this lovely lady Lindsay Lowe in Otto's Shrunken Head on our last night in NYC, Lindsay designs brilliant vintage rockabilly style catseye sunnies and glasses, influenced by cartoons and Horror films, these glasses have SFX and glow under UV lights!!  Lindsay kindly gave me a bright yellow leopard print pair of her sunnies and tried to take us to a Vice Magazine party (oh my gosh, we would have loved to have gone but we had to pack!!!) Thanks so much for the sunnies Lindsay. Check Lindsay Lowe eyewear out today! lindsayloweeyewear.com
