How No Debutante Wears A Pinafore Dress

I have always loved a pinafore dress, inspired by the sixties dolly girl style and of course the nineties revival, a pinafore worn layered over a tee and under another item is just perfect for Autumnal / Winter layers but a look that also works worn with a simple tee or vest in the summer months too. The late sixties and early seventies are a big thing right now so a pinafore or a sleeveless dress worn layered over a flouncy shirt is a perfect way to wear this look. If you don't have a bell or puff sleeved shirt, any shirt or tee will do, remember it's about layering and mixing trends here at the No Debutante blog!

So the two pinafore style dresses in question for today's post are a mock leather / bondage style pinafore skater dress from Primark and a denim Topshop slip dress. One worn with a shirt underneath and the other worn with a long sleeved top underneath with a plaid shirt layered over the top. Two different looks, two different days. Which is your favourite???

Dresses In June

On a girlier note after tomboy denim and print clash obsessions, I really do love to wear a dress. At the moment I generally go for a fairly short skater skirted dress and here are three versions in today's personal style post. The first dress being a faux leather pinafore dress mixing punk goth and grunge styling. The other two dresses are more modern vintage and are much more girlie than the first outfit, although the last textured rose print dress is real cute, and the faux leather pinafore is more edgy and punk, my favourite dress is the Hawaiian print dress from Topshop. I love the little peephole which has been placed in the most flattering position for me (on the torso, my flattest tummy part!) and the cut is perfect, I feel really girlie in this dress with its flippy skirt and a nod to a modern vintage rockabilly style. The choice of hairstyle seems to be the plait for today's personal style pics, so many plaited hairstyles, so little time! Which is your favourite look?

No Debutante - Pretty Punk Pinafore

Here are two ways I wear a pinafore dress. I own both a denim and a faux leather version but today's post just features my faux leather pinafore from Primark. This pinafore was one of the biggest bargains ever at only £11 (not even in the sales) and gets a lot of compliments. The fabric is soooo soft and the quality is good, the cut is quite girlie but in faux leather looks pretty punk too. You get the idea, I like the dress!
For the first outfit I have paired the pinafore with a sleeveless Breton tee and denim shirt worn with frilly ankle socks and creepers.
The second outfit is a little bit more grunge, I have worn it with another Primark favourite, the plaid shirt, a tee and Dr Martens. My little fashionista Sylvie has joined me too and is rockin the pink legwarmers and Converse look. Mega Cute!!

All clothing from Primark, Topshop, Underground, Super Lovers, Dr Martens, Mothercare, H&M, Converse.

No Debutante - Black Sabbath

I am a lover of bright colours and clashing prints so it has surprised me that the next two personal style outfits do not feature any prints at all and a lot of the colour black!?! Which is very unusual for me. Is it the return of 1990s minimalism? Nah, I think it is just a coincidence on this occasion, I have still managed to add a coloured belt here, some printed Converse there and a pink flower in my rockabilly hair-do. So all is not lost for this clashing print and colour mash up girl.

The second outfit was worn to watch my sons play football, yes this girlie, rockabilly pin-up was a Soccer Mom! You won't see me wearing waterproof warm clothing on the side lines of the football pitch, Oh the glamour! I'm not sure how much longer my kids are going to tolerate my style. My oldest son Lucian (9) was disgusted by the idea of him possibly banging into me on the bus home from high school, he's not even going to high school for two years! I promised I wouldn't talk to him...
