hello DODO crop top challenge

I was super stoked to have been chosen by the cute as kittens, hello DODO designers to rep their fun label. The challenge was to style up one of their cute printed crop tops No Debutante stylee in three different ways.

The hello DODO team of playful printmakers and designers are Jam and Ali from Worthing near Brighton. This creative duo are also married (how cute is this?) and with a mutual love of fun (and self-proclaimed silly) bold graphics, create bright and fun artwork to make people smile. Their products range from cards, pins, patches and of course t-shirts and come in a mix of bright colours and super cute prints (mainly cute animals) with a cheeky little message on each design.

I had no idea which print or colour I was going to get so it was a fun surprise when I landed their Keep on Raven design on a crisp white crop top.

The crop top is a perfect boxy fit and the length is just right too, showing off just enough flesh and is very flattering. It's also a great cut, which is a real important factor for me.  I wear my waists high so this tee pairs nicely with the shorts and trousers, that seem to be my current fashion faves at the mo.

hello DODO are all about colour and fun so they were already right up my fashion street, so challenge accepted and here is what happened.....

Spring Pastels

No Debutante adores pastels!

Although it's pastel time all year round for me, these super sweet shades are really big this summer. The sunshine has finally arrived and those pastels are putting a spring in our step, from clothing to accessories and rumour has it lilac is the big hair colour for 2018; a pastel colour palette works as a unisex colourway that everyone can wear.
Whether its soft lilacs, baby pinks, powdered blues, soft mints or marshmallow yellows; pastels are your friends this summer. Get cute!

The Gem of Lazy Oaf

Gemma Sheil is an illustrator, a fashion designer & the creative brains behind Lazy Oaf. You know how much No Debutante loves Lazy Oaf, don't you?

I had to feature Gemma in today's post as a contemporary fashion designer whose fashion brand & garms influence so many fashionistas & designers, including me! I often get many questions & compliments about my Lazy Oaf garms when I wear them & since International Women's Day is on the horizon, I had to give this inspiring, creative & successful female a mention!

Lazy Oaf Rainbow Cardigan

Lazy Oaf, as a brand, has done everything correctly, from the quirky styling, the super-cute colours, the artwork & the whole premise of Lazy Oaf works so well together. You just get it, the fun words on garms about being lazy & bored mashed up with cute styles, characters & colourways, on (always) generously cut garments (it just had to be a women that got this so right) creating colourful streetwear in shapes that are always on point & usually way ahead of the curve!

Sweet ruffles at Lazy Oaf

Gemma started selling her hand printed garms on Spitifields market, printing t-shirts from her Dad's garage, the bespoke range became so successful that Gemma & Lazy Oaf relocated to their flagship store in Soho where they have been ever since.

The store itself is like a fun house of colour, mixing quirky graphics with modernist interior design with a soft, pastel edge. I love it so much that I want to decorate my house like the Lazy Oaf shop, everything Lazy Oaf do is on it!

Amazing Lazy Oaf Shop Interiors

Gemma has now launched a new label named G.E.M which celebrates being a girl & what that means to her, influenced by strong women including Madonna & Bjork, who play around with their indentities and create new personas. This is mixed with 80s glamour and Soho punk influences, creating a range of garms to wear to be rebellious and not do what you are told!

This girl is so inspiring as a fashion designer, creative and feminist. Yes, Gemma Sheil! Keep on, Keeping it weird!

Print clash winter fash

The colder it gets the more I want to wear bright colours & bold prints, with the big chill upon us, let's look how we can style up prints, colours & layers this long winter, No Debutante style.

My style is quirky, I throw stuff together to see if it works & mostly it does. I do not take my styling too seriously & I often get inspiration from designers & people who are equally as quirky. It makes for a fun world!

I have been on the look out for printed trousers lately, it is my current obsession. I had some lucky finds at Monki with the polka-dot & striped trousers (see below for these bold printed gems) & today I have resurrected my leopard print leggings (purchased at H&M about 5 years ago).

Leopard print has been all over the AW 2018 fashion shows but I seriously overdid leopard print a few years back, I ended up with a tonne of leopard print everythings, which then put me off it, too much of a good thing really can be too much! It's been a few years now & I have decided to let leopard print back in to life....just a little.....

No Debutante loves these Monk polka-dot trousers paired up with the Fruit Salad red batwing crop hoodie

Not For Ponies

As a fashion editor I get to promote and support wonderful Bristol fashion independents but as No Debutante I can promote fashion indies from around the globe. Recently I was contacted by a super cute streetwear brand  from the North East of England named Not For Ponies who embellish tops and accessories with sweet and quirky appliques.

The self-confessed cute, kooky and lover of weird stuff, Rebecca Andrews is the Not For Ponies designer and is inspired by bright colours, bold prints and quirky graphics. Rebecca has been creating fun and fabulous creations since 2009, starting with a market stall and moving on to a successful streetwear brand.  Rebecca creates small batches of items with each garment being made with a little bit of fun and a lot of TLC.

These cute garms aren't  just for kids, these kawaii gems come in adult sizes too plus there is still time to pick up your Christmas jumper or buy a super sweet Christmas gift. From kawaii styles, animal prints to more playful Lazy Oaf kooky graphics, bag yourself (and your kids) some garms from Not For Ponies and support independent fashion in the UK.

The range consists of cutest appliqued motifs embellished onto bold and bright t-shirts and quirky sweats for women, men and kids, with a Christmas range available too. There are also kooky purses and fun tote bags too (great for last-minute Christmas gift ideas).

Be quick though, as Not For Ponies is an online pop-up which will be open until January 31st 2018. An online pop-up is a great platform to show off what you have created and share the fashion love with us all. It’s an easier way to test out the water, find your customer and to get yourself noticed, without putting loads of effort and money into something in one go, which can be super risky in fashion. Not that this is a problem for Not For Ponies as they’ve already featured on This Morning and kids TV show Milkshake! Nice!

As a supporter of independent fashion and as a fashion designer myself, I have experienced and seen so many fall at the first hurdle by putting too much money and time into something only to not see it through. Not For Ponies certainly seem to have their heads screwed on, it pays to be savvy fashionistas!

Sheer Love

Nothing new here, just a continuing love affair between sheer dresses, t-shirts and kimonos! If you are not up for the full on show your undies sheers, especially in these colder months, why not try adding a sheer top layer to your outfit like GEM's colourful sheer jacket or Neat Frontage's appliqued Kimono? Wear a long sleeve t-shirt over last seasons sheer slip dress with some trousers or leggings underneath, that'll keep you warm but will also add a new layer to your look.

Yeah, the images below are giving off summer vibes but get inspired, how can you make sheers work for you this winter? Sheers can work all year round layered up, have fun with it AND give it a go!

Lazy Oaf drops G.E.M a super cute new label with balls

Lazy Oaf have dropped the cutest new collection named G.E.M, a venture label to Lazy Oaf by founder Gemma Shiel, who wants to make G. E.M a fashion label for girls with balls! Gemma wanted this new label to be even more surreal and weird, with an element of glamour, mystery and excitement! This is all sounds right up No Debutante's street! There are some rock'n'roll punk elements to the first G.E.M collection with a pastel cute aspect that Lazy Oaf are known and loved for, G.E.M adds some rebellious glamour that makes it stand apart from Lazy Oaf's goofy-cool streetwear style. Check out my favourite pieces below and sigh over their beautifullness....
