Dolly Girl Style

What do I mean by Dolly Girl style? The name is taken from the 1960s trend for a dolly bird, where girls would dress up in cute dresses and put childlike bunches in their hair and wear multiple pairs of false eyelashes, it's quite similar to the Lolita style in Japan with their Victorian flouncy dresses and dolly shoes but without the more sinister connatations of being dressed up like a seductive young girl. It's more about embracing girliness and cute styling, and as a self confessed child tomboy, I still enjoyed dressing up girlie sometimes and nothing has changed now. I have my sportstyle, grunge influences and general fashion mash ups but like to mix it up with a bit of dolly cuteness in smock dresses, sparkly tights and socks and sandals. Tough Girls can look girlie too. Never judge a book by its cover.

Rock'n' Roll High School

I have just spent a fantastic weekend in London with some of my bestest friends and after managing to take six hours to get back to Bristol late yesterday afternoon and falling asleep by 8pm last night, I have now landed back to Earth with a bump on the kid fuelled school run this morning followed by shopping for my son Lucian's 10th birthday party for next weekend and baking him a cake for his actual birthday tomorrow! Phew! I need to go back to sleep and I haven't even had my run, wrapped his presents or ordered the shopping delivery! (You didnt think I actually took my three kids to the supermarket did you?) That's the only thing about great weekends the reality of the week is harder to deal with!

Let's look at today's personal style photographs, I always find time for a bit of blogging! It's all about the circle cut midi skirt again today. I am really comfortable wearing my circle skirts these days, so here are three ways I have worn mine over the past few weeks. There is definately a theme with midis and tucked in tshirts for me but I also like to wear crop vests or sleeveless shirts tied at the waist . Ankle socks obligitory! Which do you prefer out of these three looks (in order) Rock' n ' Roller, High School Hop or Geek Chic?

All clothing from Topshop, Vivien of Holloway, Primark and Converse.

Thanks for following and I shall hopefully be back with you tomorrow for more No Debutante, Fashionista fun!

My Current Obsession.....Wedges and Creepers

It is clear that I have become obsessed with wedges and creeper shoes. I have probably always been obsessed with them ( I certainly have enough pairs, my confused husband can confirm this) The obsession has since mutated from lovely wedge heel sandals, through to wedge ankle boots and then taken a turn into the more unconventional platform wedge trainer boots and brothel creepers. Since I noticed my obsession steadily getting out of control I have found out that Buffalo shoes are now available in Topshop. I didn't even wear Buffalo's the first time round but the 1990s revival is in full throttle and the tail end of the 1990s has arrived with Buffalo shoes. I would actually consider wearing them this time round, they'd have to be a bloody fantastic pair of Buffalo's for me to get them though, I had grown a hatred towards them quite quickly and by 1998 they were a no go area in my mind despite my love of all things Japanese. I came to the conclusion at the time that all the amazing street style images from my beloved Fruits bible were ten years old and in  my opinion Buffalo's were already out before they were in in the UK.

I think I love the platform wedge trainers for a more 1970s Glam Rock look and I have always loved Brothel Creepers inspired by teddy boys and punks. There is also a look towards 1990s ravers styling  in some of the images which I am liking a lot. I have selected most of the images from my ever faithful Pinterest Fashion board find it here http://pinterest.com/nodebutante/fashion/ I have also sourced some current wedges and creepers from Topshop and Asos to show you what I am liking from the high street.  I am considering some low wedge sandals to wear to work (see last image) that are not too high, are comfortable for my work and school runs and would also look good worn with ankle socks Japanese style. I do love socks and sandals!! I need my (comfortable) daily wedge fix since my beloved ridiculous rainbow wedges are far too impractical for lots of walking.

Which pairs are your Favourites??

Bernhard Willhelm SS 13 - Hey What's Up?

Whilst browsing through my vast collections fashion images on Pinterest I came across these images from the Bernhard Willhelm SS 2013 collection and thought I would share my  favourite pieces from the collection with you.
I have posted about Bernhard Wilhelm’s collections before and I always look forward to his next collection of avant-garde, anti fashion, street style pieces. The thing about Willhelm’s collections is that aside from the outrageous styling, fashion shows and amazing photographs you will find that there are also very wearable pieces.
I am loving the oversized maxi cut dresses, bright colours and mix prints, the layering and the amazing footwear! I personally love to accessorise with printed socks and leggings and Willhelm pairs his with embellished trainers and Japanese style sandals. For the Men its all about mix print layering of sports style sweatshirts and jackets, bright printed trousers, sports socks and more sandals!
Despite Willhelms avantgarde aesthetic there are many links with this seasons trends making it easier to recreate the look using bold graphic Op Art style prints, pleated fabrics, oversized or maxi dresses and socks worn with your hidden wedge boots or for the braver fashionistas among us, socks worn with sandals Japanese style! The style of the high top boots are very similar to the hidden wedge style boots that are everywhere at the moment making that part of the look easy to covet.

The next collection is now available to view on Bernhard Willhelms website here  http://www.bernhard-willhelm.com/collections/w-13-14-women-lookbook/   Check out the animations!  I'm sure I shall do a post about my favourite pieces from the AW 2013 collection very soon.
Thanks for following me!
