Jeremy Scott SS 2014 - My Boyfriend's Back

It is now time to let the summer in! I have official grown tired of Winter and feel the need to look forward to what I am going to be wearing in the warmer months ahead.

I am starting with one of my favourite Spring Summer 2014 collections from one of my most favourite designers, Jeremy Scott.

This collection is bursting with print and colour, the look is high summer, its late 1950s pin-up and early 1960s sex kitten with a street style edge, I love it! Think Betty Rubble, Wilma Flintstone, Tracy Turnblad from Hairspray, The B52s and Amy Winehouse, you get the idea, it's fun but edgy.

The prints range from 1950s abstract art influences, TV test pattern vertical stripes and 1960s pop art to oversized 1980s paint splashes reminiscent of retro surf/skate style mixed with animal prints, all in rainbow bright technicolour.

The styling consists of high summer bra tops, high neck crop tops, co-ords, asymmetric bodycon dresses, 1960s mini dresses, high waisted short fitted skirts worn with ankle strapped pumps, 1960s inspired ankle boots, oversized cats eye sunglasses and massive bouffant bob hairstyles. For the men there was a mix of teddy boy versus 1980s skater and surfer style with bold printed shorts, slim fit trousers and 1950s teddy boy on the beach style shirts and jackets worn with winkle pickers and greased up hair. Jeremy Scott is one of those designers whose fashion vision works for both men and women and he incorporates this into his collections with ease, linking styling and prints together to make fantastic collections for everyone to wear.

How am I going to wear Jeremy Scott SS 2014?? Well, unless Jeremy Scott decides to send me some of the collection to wear and blog about this summer, I think I shall have to go with plan b (as usual) and recreate the look using my current wardrobe and a few found pieces from the high street. I really, really love co-ords (matching top and bottoms) it's such a vintage idea that sounds twee but looks great! Topshop and Asos have started to sell a few examples of this over the past few seasons, which is great but, I really haven’t fallen for any of them yet (there is always a yet) so until I do, I shall just buy/wear separates and recreate co-ords for myself. I shall be wearing my ever loved crop top vests with high waisted shorts and skirts, revealing a small amount of torso!  I have a ton of bodycon which I had since disregarded but perhaps need to reconsider again and I am also partial to a little sixties shirt minidress at the moment, all I need to do is backcomb in my beehive and pop on my cats eye sunnies and I’m ready, it's all about the styling daaaarrling!

How can you wear Jeremy Scott SS 2014?? Well, perhaps you are rich and can afford Jeremy Scott, or perhaps you could just consider buying vest tops and dresses in the similar prints as in the collection. Wear crop tops, if you are brave enough (go on, give them a go with a high waist trouser or skirt) purchase a new 1960s summer mini dress and embrace the return of the asymmetric top. If the full on Jeremy Scott look isn't for you, why not consider it for the beach with swimwear and co-ords in 1950s style prints? It's all over the high street already. Whatever you do, just wear your Jeremy Scott this summer with big hair and oversized cats eye sunglasses and work that vintage look!

And for all you skater teddy boys out there, choose 1950s print short sleeve shirts, retro skate printed shorts and don’t forget the rockabilly hair……you’re  looking good daddio.

Thank you for the inspiration Jeremy Scott!

No Debutante - Animal Nitrate

I have a new phone, it's just an android phone but does pretty much everything I require it to do with a much less sensitive touch screen (my last phone would try and open every link just by looking at it!!) and with its bigger screen and better apps I can now use Pinterest, Instagram, check out blogs and take much better photographs, which is great for my blogging requirements. I am a late comer to Instagram and so far have uploaded one image, but I am loving it already, the next step is Twitter and then I am all set for widening my blogging audience and generally moving this self confessed technology doofus further into the 21st century! It's an exciting time!

Here's today's personal style outfit on this sunny school run, cafe with friends and spending time with little Sylvie kinda day.......

Leopard print. I definitely have a problem with it, I thought I was over it but clearly, I am not and now I have little Sylvie who already has a few leopard print items herself, a day doesn't seem to go by when one of us isn't wearing it.
My Name is No Debutante and I am a leopard print addict.

No Debutante and Mark Sewell Photography Collaboration No 2 -Part 3 Real Wild Child

I have to apologise with the lack of posts of late, for once it has nothing to do with illness, I have been real busy planning my club night Bang's big 10th year Birthday party which might I say was an amazing success last Saturday night!! It wasn't just arranging the event that took up my time it was the rehearsing for the Bang Band which forms once every 5 years to celebrate Bangs more significant birthdays and I also made a Bangzine (Bang's fanzine) which features all the photographs that I have taken over the past 5 years, there is also a previous Bangzine which celebrates the first 5 years. Its great to see all the different faces and fashions that happened at my little club night over the past 10 years, I'm so happy we have evidence that it has happened!! I promise to do some posts with all my favourite Bang pics very soon!

OK,  so yeah, I've been busy, so busy that I haven't managed to show you the last part in the most recent photoshoot collaboration between No Debutante and Mark Sewell Photography.

Part 3 has been named Real Wild Child due to the overload of faux animal print and fur that feature in the shoot. It wasn't planned, I had taken along the bodycon tiger print dress and wanted to show off my new fur coat bought in the Topshop sale.

The photos, for me, have come out looking like a mash up between Jerry Hall late 1970s early 80s glamour, punk and those girls in the Happy Mondays video for Kinky Afro, some people say they were prostitutes, but who am I to judge, let's say their look is very early 1990s glam, whatever, I am happy with the result.

I've gotta go because the baby has woken up but I thought I would leave you with this. Hope it works??

No Debutante - Hello

Since my last post, we've had a bit of snow here in Bristol and my kids finally got to use those sledges that we got them for Christmas, two years ago! I got an unexpected day off work, thanks to the snow and nearly didn't make it to the planned studio photo shoot collaboration with my photographer friend Mark Sewell. Thankfully the roads were cleared yesterday so watch this space for the next instalment of the collaboration.

Here are the second lot of images showing what I've been wearing since Christmas taken with my usual little Sony digital camera.

Look at my lovely Antoni and Alison purse that my husband bought me for Christmas. I always love the Antoni and Alison vacuum packaging, so I had to show it to you! This purse is so useful, it's longer than a usual purse and I can fit my phone and ipod in too!! I love the childish punk prints and Antoni and Alison were my new favourite shop back in the 1990s....Oh, Antoni and Alison, it's been a long time but I still love you!! Check out the website here http://www.antoniandalison.co.uk

My latest pair of 1940/50s style jeans from my new favourite shop Freddies of Pinewood (also a present from Phil) worn with my oxblood Dr Martens which I was lucky enough to blag from the recent shop launch, attended by myself, Rudi and Mark Sewell back in October 2012. I seriously have a Dr Martins problem at the moment, they had a half price sale on the other day and I didn't leave the shop empty handed. Whoops! Watch this space for my latest purchase!

More new shoes?? Yes, another present from my husband (yes, I was totally spoilt this year) These leopard print Topshop high tops come with a removable wedge heel that you put into the shoe. I haven't actually worn them without the wedge yet, they look great on and I thought I'd pair them with a bit more leopard print...You can never wear too much, I say.

OK, here's a brief explanation about those monstrous sized decorations behind me in these photos. Phil and I put them up after having one too many mulled wines on Christmas Eve as a surprise for the boys on Christmas morning - A kind of Santa's grotto, if you will - we did mean to take them down but they managed to stay up for two weeks! Was the reason for this that we didn't have time to take them down? Was it sheer laziness or did we secretly (blatantly...ahem!) Quite like them? Enough said..

Leopard print bodycon, red ankle socks and brothel creepers! Oh, and Phil's new skate deck.......See I did treat him this Christmas too!!

Pink!!
Check out my new Tatty Devine pink lightning earrings!!
Quick secret....This jumper has been in the bag it came in since last Christmas....That's bad, isn't it? Don't judge me, I'm wearing it now....

More land girl style in my new jeans!
I'm really loving the bigger jeans and Dr Martens boots look for this Winter, it's so masculine but also 1950s cute worn with stripey tops and big knits.

My next post will be the studio photo shoot collaboration with No Debutante and Mark Sewell. Very exciting!! Watch this space!! ND xx

No Debutante - A Winters Tale Part 2 -Your hair looks like an easter egg...

Whilst Phil and my sons play Skylanders Giants on the newly received Wii U. I shall ignore what they are doing (and recognise when I am not wanted) and begin the second part of my Winters Tale double bill personal style blog post. I have since been taking many more pics of my Christmas fashion goodies but lets just end with the Nov-Dec fashion moments first! The baby is in bed by the way, she's not just randomly crawling about the house like that baby in Trainspotting...

I bloody love this Gang of Four tshirt!! I was a bit scared of it when I first got the big, oversized, monstrous bright yellow item but now I get annoyed when it isn't clean! (You can only imagine the clothes washing dilemma in my house with five people including two young boys and a baby) Here it is, my new favourite tshirt, worn with my high waisted H&M skater skirt (which is virtually vintage) and the studded Topshop pumps! This is what I look like at the end of the day after work and school pick ups BTW!

When I have a bit more time on my hands, I pop on some make-up (a little too much make-up on this occasion, some might say) and pop my hair up into cute kiddie bunches and then go hunting for my one year old daughter and do the same to her, Sylvie is clearly loving it!

  Not the bunches again Mummy!!!

Here's a sneak preview of me at the December Hoochie Coochie event, where The Bang DJs are residents, in a Rags to Riches themed outfit. More images of this amazing night to follow over the next few weeks!!
Vikki Mac, my hair stylist was our babysitter for the evening and Vikki kindly quaffed my hair up into and amazing curly mohawk. It's great when your hair stylist is your babysitter, isn't it?

Here's my hair after Vikki Mac got her hands on it again a couple of weeks later, she put on a toner which I would only describe as neon orange, which was terrifying when wet, but I have actually been loving ever since!! It's still in my hair a bit now, two weeks later, which frankly is great for a toner on hair that needs to be washed regularly. I'm tempted to go back and get it done again already!

This is the outfit I chose to wear at my work Christmas party. My bodycon tiger print dress with the baseball boot wedges and my neon hair which coincidentally matched the 1970s wallpaper behind me. The party was held at the Big Chill Bar in Bristol (where my club night Bang were resident DJs for two years) this room is the secret 1970s kitchen diner, which looked great and was a pretty intimate space but unfortunately the retro record player couldn't play any of the vinyl as they were all scratched and we only had the tiny speakers to play our ipods instead which were frankly too quiet.......despite this I have many photos proving we were having fun, even though I was apparently ill when i got home and I don't remember the taxi journey at all........I'd say the party was a success!

Pour me another Sailor Jerry's and ginger ale Phil! Happy Christmas!! ND xx

It's too early for that dress....Post Pregnancy Fashion Dilemmas Part 8

Prints in May

It's time for the next instalment of my catch-up Post Pregnancy Fashion Dilemmas. It's mid-June now and the sun is shining today which I am very grateful for, it has been so depressing here in the UK with all this Summer rain!!!
The next series of post pregnancy outfits are all print inspired, there isn't too much, if any at all, of my usual print clash shenanigans but each outfit has to be comfortable as I am a mother of three children who have me running about like a mad woman...oh...right...like an exhausted Mum with three children would, I s'pose. I always attempt to look like I have made an effort and try not to give in to wearing jeans every day to make life easier...I do love a challenge or to make life more difficult, some might say....I will not give in!!

Ohhh! A little bit of tiger print body-con, on the school run?? Oh yes! Am I holding my stomach in and creating a flattering waist shape with my hands in the top image?? Oh yes! Fashion tricks....Tyra Banks would be so proud of me!

Tiger print body-con dress from Topshop, Leopard print cardigan (always mix your animal prints) from Primark, Cats eye sunglasses from Asos and the good ol' red Converse low tops.

I wouldn't call this clashing as somehow I have managed to co-ordinate the whole outfit, which is very unlike me. It is very bright however, which IS very me and it's mega comfy and a little bit punk.
I'm sure you've seen me wear this before but it is a great alternative to jeans.

Blue knit from Topshop, customised with rips by me, Digital floral trousers, green vest and socks also Topshop. Red Converse.

I was in an experimenting mood on this day, inspired by 1980s maxi dresses mixed with 90s grunge layering. I'm still not sure on this look but I like that it's something different from me. I am still battling with the Post Pregnancy belly, I'm not sure I still had a belly at this point after having my boys, I guess I hadn't had three kids then either and I'm quite sure I didn't eat half as much cake!!

Sonic Youth tee from Urban Outfitters, Madonna jersey maxi dress from Topshop and Leopard print Converse low tops.

I fit into my playsuit!! I love my playsuit and, stupidly, it was one of the first things I tried on after I had Sylvie (look at the little cute baby in the picture, I love her so much!!) and the disappointment and realisation of my new size kicked in!! Many months later I tried the playsuit on and it fits just fine. It, of course, now clings a bit to my little pot belly that doesn't want to leave me, just yet, but it's not too bad and my husband says he doesn't even notice that. As most women I know, I have taken that the wrong way, Phil must be either 'just saying that to make me feel better' or he is trying to tell me I have 'always had this pot belly!!' He will never win either way. Thanks for your attempt at making me feel better Phil!!

The conclusion today seems to be that I am obviously obsessed with my Converse flat tops, they are my thing, my wardrobe staple (well, let's not forget blue eye shadow), It was nice to see the appearance of a tailored item (the playsuit) after all that lycra/ jersey too and I would like to stand up for jeans, I do love jeans, I have many pairs but I always try to wear them as part of an outfit, not as those things I just throw on with anything, where's the fun in that??
Love your jeans!!! ND xx
