Frill Me

Hey hey Fashionistas! How fast has this week gone? So much to do so little time!

The Bristol fashion fun is still in full swing with festival fashion launches and pop-ups and Bristol's most fashionable filled festival Love Saves The Day is only a couple of days away,(think Coachella with a Bristol swagger and even more glitter) promising to be outrageous, colourful and sparklier than ever with many Bristol indie designers garms available!

NEWS FLASH

I am very excited to announce that No Debutante will be covering the festival fashion moments alongside the LSTD crew and Bristol 24/7 bringing you imagery, films, interviews and fun, with my pineapple cocktail cup in one hand and a camera in the other, No Debutante and friends will be searching out all you fashionistas and documenting your outfits! There may even be a collaboration on the cards with Bristol fashion house, That Thing's alter ego, The Fash Pack X No Debutante, it's all happening! Come and say hi and get your photo taken for the LSTD festival fashion extravaganza!

Today's post is influenced by a type of fashion styling that is very No Debutante inspired which include sheer layers, oversized dresses, slip dresses and frills. Many of the images shown alongside my own are from 2017 collections by designers including Angel Chen, Chika Kasada, Emma Mulholland, Molly Goddard, MSGM plus high street faves including Unif, Monki and Urban Outfitters.

Sheer layers are still a big thing in streetwear, wear oversized sheer dresses, slips or tops, layered over sportswear or bodycon or anything you like really, there are no rules. You can pretty much chuck a sheer item over most outfits and make it work, give it a go!

Oversizing is still a huge (no pun intended) trend. With high street shops like Monki finally producing the XL sizes fashionistas craved a few years back, it is now easier to get hold of oversized pieces, let's not forget the indie designers and streetwear fashionistas have been on it for a while but we always welcome great styling here at No Debutante! It's not just the shapes of the garments that are oversized, it's also the details oversized sleeves, lengths and the biggest trend of the year big frills.

Slips dresses come in many guises from grunge inspired sheers for playing with textures and layering, big oversized denims and frill embellished slip's adding a cute dolly look, worn with sportswear or over bodysuits, the slip dress is your friend again this year.

Frills are on everything but don't just think of romantic frills on floral summery dresses, think massive peplum frills on the hem of dresses, frills on the sleeves of sweatshirts, denim items embellished with frills and vests and swimsuits even have that frill neckline which sounds so twee but is a big look this summer.

Where the Wild Roses Grow

I was shocked when two of my favourite fashion designers known for their outrageous fashion shows, flouncing frills, clashing prints & the most colourful & inspiring styling ever,. more was always more with Meadham Kirchhoff until they themselves became no more..... with London's dynamic duo leaving many fashionistas heartbroken, all I could think was where am I going to get my outrageous Lolita's on Acid fashion fix now? They even did collaborations with Topshop so I could afford their beautiful clothes but without enough support & funding from the fashion industry Meadham Kirchhoff were forced to close their doors &  I was completely gutted!

Whilst I think of them fondly & often pop on my stripey lurex tights, frilly cherry ankle socks & flouncy eyeball printed baby doll dress, I still need a new Meadham Kirchhoff fix.
Then it happened......Edward Meadham appears, he's back with a new collection made for his fans at affordable prices in his new home at Dover Street Market in London. The new label Blue Roses, Is a collection 'for girls, kids & weirdos' & I definitely fall into one of those categories, you can choose which one.....this collection has been designed to be more wearable & less like a grand couture outfit, it's for people who don't want to fit in,i t's anti-fashion, it's brilliant.

The collection itself is a Meadham mash up of sweatshirts & t-shirts layered over sheer frilly dresses & tops, styled up with frilled collars'n'cuffs & amazing vertical striped long socks & fishnets tights. The prints range from Meadhams' own goth punk handwritten words, horror imagery and my favourite cute vintage childrens motifs from the Meadham Kirchhoff days. Check out the childlike hairstyles with hair-clips, kiss curls & cute dolly punk make-up! I love everything about this shoot right down to the handwritten scribbles all over the prints.See the collection below..
I have also added some images of Susie Bubble wearing Blue Roses, she wears it so well, I love her styling, she is the perfect Blue Roses muse! Unusual and cute!

Why the name Blue Roses? I love the reason why Edward Meadham has chosen Blue Roses for his collection, a Blue Rose is an uncommon Rose, it is beautiful in its own artificial way, it stands out from the others, it doesn't want to fit in & doesn't care how it is perceived......that is a perfect way to describe Meadhams' creations, the look he creates & the way I definitely feel about fashion & the look I create for myself.....Who wants to fit in and look like everyone else? I am a Blue Rose! I love you Edward Meadham and welcome back xxx
