Anti fashion feels

No Debutante loves anti-fashion fashion.
It's a given. If it's a bit quirky, even a little odd, I'm in!

Despite being a fashion blogger and fashion editor, I am always inspired by a fashion designer that does things differently. This is one of the reasons I support independent designers.

Anti-fashion is not trend led, it has it's own style and beats to its own drum, keeping it fresh and contemporary.

Anti-fashion does not mean you hate fashion.

Independent designers create small fashion runs, they are non-corporate and their pieces are not mass produced. It's all about the creativity, they are free to do their thing and if people start wearing their creations, even better! It's non-conformity, it's punk!

Today, I am looking at independent fashion designers, two of which, including Fuud London and Smock Me are new designers to feature in the No Debutante blog.

From street wear to super-cute styling here are a few fashion designers that have caught my eye lately, with that anti-fashion, do it your way feel.

Fuud London  - streetwear without the labels

Fuud London

Coincidentally, the Fuud brand started in my hometown of Bristol with the Fuudhood, a detachable hood/scarf design. It was only at the end of 2018 that I rediscovered the Fuud brand, now known as Fuud London, on Instagram.

I was taken in by the bright colors and bold prints used on these super-styled, streetwear garms including sweatshirts, hoodies and joggers. These garms have a kinda retro feel to them whilst looking super slick and let's be honest, mega comfy! Fuud London gives a fresh twist to streetwear, it's more about the design and cuts, than a logo.

The prints are cut up into panels alongside plain fabrics and colours, I am loving the unmatched legs on the trackies. Yep, I am totally swooning over one of these streetwear co-ords! Nice one Fuud London!

Smock Me

I am a sucker for graphics and I am loving these kawaii punk style logo graphics from Smock Me. They basically had me at the logo. I am loving the quirky, hand-drawn style graphics layered over day-glo camo prints.

Smock Me create bright and bold unisex streetwear piece with graphics that remind me of skate artists like Jim Philips mixed with a kawaii style. Smock Me are an independent LA based brand and are definitely one to watch.

Lazy Oaf

Yeah, I am obsessed, sorry not sorry! Lazy Oaf have been keeping my world weird for a fair few years now. How can I not share their latest garms? Actually, how did I miss this super-cute hearts cardigan? Yep, it's already sold out, as Lazy Oaf do small runs, making their limited edition garms internationally sought after by all the kawaii kids...and me!

The Lazy Oaf X Esther Loves You collaboration is just the cutest! All pastel colourways and kawaii bunny prints.

Who doesn't want the pink bunny boilersuit or the adorable lilac Bungarees?? This is why No Debutante loves Lazy Oaf. Super cuteness and those 'Lazy' slogans!

OMG The Bungarees!!!!!

Esther Loves You is an artist and creator of the super kitsch Esther Bunny and has collaborated with Lazy Oaf on several occasions. Lazy Oaf's style suits the Esther Loves You graphics perfectly and I want to see more, more, more! Anti-fashion is so much more fun!

Typical Girls - Like Typical Freaks

The latest Typical Freaks anti-fashion, kawaii punk infused collection has dropped and No Debutante is loving it!

The SS19 collection features the signature scribbled, abstract screen prints, layered up on streetwear garms from denim jackets, short, boxy cotton skirts and embellished, high waisted mom style trousers to oversized long t-shirts, all styled up in textured layers of fun!

All images courtesy of Typical Freaks

Typical Freaks SS19

Featuring azure and royal blues contrasted with white as the main colourways, with bright yellow and orange, mint green, rose pinks and reds joining them with an extra contrast of graphic black layered over the prints.

The No Debutante fave pieces from SS19 have to be the denim jackets, they come in all sorts of shapes from boxy and oversized to cute crops, all smothered with the random Typical Freaks scribbles and swirls with chevrons and checkboards joining the hand drawn Typical Freaks prints this summer.

Typical Freaks AW18

We can swoon over the spring summer pieces but in reality we are only just approaching AW18 and need a bit of autumnal inspo, I am not a dedicated trend follower and we can, of course, wear any of these garms all year round, but a little bit of AW style inspo is always welcome, especially when you are not, naturally, a winter type of person! The Typical Freaks AW18 collection does not disappoint!

Keeping that Typical Freaks style but with some new shapes added in for the colder months, this collection features, cute hand drawn grid prints (inspired by the grids on a cutting mat), ruffled hemmed oversized dresses, cuddly and bright printed scarves.

(TIP ALERT- Make your scarf part of your outfit, not just an accessory you throw on to keep warm).

Typical Freaks SS19 features colour blocked t-shirts and the bleached cotton skirts, jackets and trousers that are Typical Freaks staples, all emblazoned with the textured and abstract prints with layered up styling.

The main base colour for AW18 is black, contrasting with raspberry reds, lilac, mint green, azure blue, and white, with a subtle pop of yellow here and there.

Typical Freaks create their own versions of prints, like a grid or checkerboard print, they sketch their prints by hand and then reproduce them as screen prints and often hand paint over the top of these, layering up those prints and creating theor own unique style!

They have to be one of the only designers, whose sketchy and hand drawn fashion illustrations manage to look exactly like the finished garms! You know where you are with a Typical Freaks fashion illustration! It's a very inspiring process for a (wannabe/wish I had more time) designer. I love that everything right down to the long white printed socks (and sometimes even shoes) have had the Typical Freaks printed magic added to them.

This collection features asymmetric panel tops, that that remind me of early Vivienne Westwood cuts from her punk and Pirate collections, not playing by the rules and creating their own shapes, using off centre cutting and DIY techniques. It's really rather clever, despite it's anti fashion/ ripping up the pattern cutting rule book ethos. Who doesn't love a fashion rebel?

The No Debutante fave from this collection and perhaps the most wearable (after the t-shirts) are the mom style high-waisted, colour block jeans. But of course everything is just fantastic and inspiring!

With prices ranging from £150 for the denim skirts to a very reasonable £45 for a t-shirt, you need to be seen wearing Typical Freaks, with even more bargains to be found in their sale collections and on Depop (socks from £10 and tees for £20), every one can get a bit of Typical Freaks!

Where the Wild Roses Grow

I was shocked when two of my favourite fashion designers known for their outrageous fashion shows, flouncing frills, clashing prints & the most colourful & inspiring styling ever,. more was always more with Meadham Kirchhoff until they themselves became no more..... with London's dynamic duo leaving many fashionistas heartbroken, all I could think was where am I going to get my outrageous Lolita's on Acid fashion fix now? They even did collaborations with Topshop so I could afford their beautiful clothes but without enough support & funding from the fashion industry Meadham Kirchhoff were forced to close their doors &  I was completely gutted!

Whilst I think of them fondly & often pop on my stripey lurex tights, frilly cherry ankle socks & flouncy eyeball printed baby doll dress, I still need a new Meadham Kirchhoff fix.
Then it happened......Edward Meadham appears, he's back with a new collection made for his fans at affordable prices in his new home at Dover Street Market in London. The new label Blue Roses, Is a collection 'for girls, kids & weirdos' & I definitely fall into one of those categories, you can choose which one.....this collection has been designed to be more wearable & less like a grand couture outfit, it's for people who don't want to fit in,i t's anti-fashion, it's brilliant.

The collection itself is a Meadham mash up of sweatshirts & t-shirts layered over sheer frilly dresses & tops, styled up with frilled collars'n'cuffs & amazing vertical striped long socks & fishnets tights. The prints range from Meadhams' own goth punk handwritten words, horror imagery and my favourite cute vintage childrens motifs from the Meadham Kirchhoff days. Check out the childlike hairstyles with hair-clips, kiss curls & cute dolly punk make-up! I love everything about this shoot right down to the handwritten scribbles all over the prints.See the collection below..
I have also added some images of Susie Bubble wearing Blue Roses, she wears it so well, I love her styling, she is the perfect Blue Roses muse! Unusual and cute!

Why the name Blue Roses? I love the reason why Edward Meadham has chosen Blue Roses for his collection, a Blue Rose is an uncommon Rose, it is beautiful in its own artificial way, it stands out from the others, it doesn't want to fit in & doesn't care how it is perceived......that is a perfect way to describe Meadhams' creations, the look he creates & the way I definitely feel about fashion & the look I create for myself.....Who wants to fit in and look like everyone else? I am a Blue Rose! I love you Edward Meadham and welcome back xxx
