Midi System

Another favourite skirt length of No Debutante's is the Midi skirt or in this case the 1950s circle skirt. When I purchased my first circle skirt I was well involved in the whole modern vintage / rockabilly look and I had only planned to wear it as a 1950s vintage item matched with 1950s gypsy tops and bustiers for the full blown fifties look. After a while I realised I wanted to wear the skirt more often than for my random vintage summer days and needed to move the circle skirt into the autumn and to fit my more contemporary but haphazard street style wardrobe. I started wearing my circle skirts with tucked in tees, crop tops and even mashed up in a grunge layered style which works well especially in the colder months.


Today you can see a few months worth of circle skirt outfits worn No Debutante style showing you how I wear my circle skirts all year round. Expect fashion mash ups and get inspired.

Modern Vintage Queens Vivien of Holloway have an endless supply of beautiful 1950s circle skirts and it's cool to see Loving Youth remade vintage is still available at Topshop concessions too!

Cruel Summer

Hey hey Fashionistas! As usual I've been mega busy with family and work commitments so I have to apologise for taking a week to write this post!

Let's get straight in there and have a chat about a couple of recent personal style outfits that I've been out and about in lately. The first, I described as a 'Autumn 2014 layering Try Out' on Instagram. The weather had taken an Autumnal turn here in the UK, the sun had literally disappeared! It seems mad now since our Great British Indian summer has turned up and the sun is indeed shining again! 

I am loving Smock dresses, I wear them alone (with shorts underneath, they are goddamn short) or layered over jeans and skirts. Layering is an easy way to keep those summer wardrobe items working for you in the colder months! On this occasion I have layered the smock dress over my Mom jeans both from Topshop. 
I have since bought two more smock dresses from my new favourite on line shop The White Pepper. One of which I shall hopefully be wearing to a festival inspired wedding I am attending on Saturday, watch this space for wedding outfits, antics and inspirations! 

The second look is more geek chic than  1950s inspired. I love mashing up styles so a rock tee worn with a 1950s circle skirt and plimsolls is a great geek chic mix. Real Modern Vintage! I wore my hair up in a cute and quirky off centre top knot to finish the look.

Tucked In Or Hung Out

This is the last personal style post before I reveal my new hair colour on the No Debutante blog. Since the weather was hot mid July, the skirt was the chosen item for me, midi, mini, tartan or clashing prints anything goes but what to wear with my skirts? Separates can be worn in so many  different variations and can give the illusion that you have many more clothes than you actually do! Dressed up or down, layered, with or without accessories and whether you should tuck your top in or let it hang out, the possibilities are endless. 

I have taken it upon myself to question why do (mostly older) women wear a long fitted top pulled over the top of their skirts? I think it was possibily a look that was started to avoid getting muffin top, whatever the reason, it truly has to be one of the most unflattering looks ever!!?? You have a look, you will see this look every day, it drives me mad! Can't these women just tuck the top in a bit and show off that they have a waist instead of creating more bumps and accentuating the ones they may already have? Or wear a more oversized top to make it look like you are not trying to hide your waist, hips and bum with your fitted top? Or just wear a bloody dress and be done with it! Proportionally this look is an odd one, it creates an unflattering illusion that you have a very long (bumpy)torso and equally very short legs. It's a no win look. Please, if you are doing this then stop it at once and show off your curves! Rant Over!

Here are three ways I wear my separates with tops tucked in or out but not a sign of the fitted long top tragedy! On a lighter note, who remembers the white Primark sandals that broke on the second wear? Well, I was about to throw them out in disgust when I had an idea.... I cut off the broken straps, two seconds before I was leaving the house for work and 'voila' a fixed pair of sandals, customised the no Debutante way! Check out the results below! What do you think? Going Underground

I am really looking forward to the weekend, nope, I'm not lucky enough to be going to Glastonbury Festival but I am really looking forward to seeing some of my bestest friends in London. It's a ladies only, kids free, day and night of fun and to be honest, things will get messy. I cannot wait!! 

Today's post is inspired by my fun filled weekend which is rapidly approaching. Here are a couple of outfits I have worn out lately, yes, actually going out for drinks and that, with grown ups.

I wore the first outfit to a double whammy night out where I firstly attended my friends 40th Birthday Bash which unfortunately clashed with my club night Bang, needless to say I was rather worse for wear when I turned up to Bang and had to DJ straight away so I didn't manage to get any decent photographs of my preppy, modern vintage 1950s inspired outfit. We will make do with the photographs taken (very quickly) at home while I rushed to get ready for party no.1! 

The second outfit was worn to a wedding reception and again has a rockabilly modern vintage look about it. I really like this dress from Zara but there is a fault in the zip which means I need help zipping it up which puts me off it a bit. The deep cut back does show off my tattoo though and the dress has pockets which always pleases me!  I am not happy with the way the hotel carpets are clashing with my outfit.

Girls World

I have found a moment to write a quick blog post in these kid fuelled Easter holidays. This morning I helped the boys write a song about a car and practised french plaits (my new obsession) in Sylvie's lovely long hair, which is not an easy thing to do with a wriggling toddler! I think I need to get myself a Girls World.....Why did I have to give my Girls World an undercut when I was a kid?? Think of the fun I could be having now!! I am not sure how much longer Sylvie is going to tolerate being my doll, she has an opinion now and everything! 

Ok...Moving onto today's personal style outfits. They are not linked in anyway one is Modern Vintage and the other I am labelling Pastel Punk. Both outfits were worn to special occasions however so there's a tedious link for you! The first being my Mums (surprise) 60th lunch. I had arranged to take her to The Boca Bar here in Bristol, my mum loves the tapas menu at this place but rarely gets to go, so I arranged to meet her and our immediate family there on her birthday. I also secretly invited lots of other family members and friends along and she was generally speechless (a big thing for my Mum) Happy 60th Mum! 

The Modern Vintage outfit consists of my lovely new Vivien Of Holloway 1950s circle skirt in The Day of The Dead print. This is my first ever circle skirt so I was insure how I was going to wear it without things getting a bit too twinset and pearls twee. I opted for this macabre print as I wanted to add a bit of rock'n'roll to the look, I have worn it with a black crop top, yellow cardigan and leopard print Converse. I am looking forward to the warmer weather when I can wear the skirt with no tights and frilly ankle socks, surely this day is coming soon?? It is April after all!

The Pastel Punk outfit was worn to my club night Bang. I like to dress OTT at Bang, I am the DJ and the host and everybody needs to notice me.........(ahem).....I do remember having a great night and dancing like I was performing at Vegas....You get the idea. 

For this Pastel Punk look I have matched my outfit and make-up with my pink and blue hair and have managed to wear as many prints as possible in my graffiti print Vision tee, Meadham Kirchhoff X Topshop stripey tights and those ridiculous rainbow creepers that I love to death! I had sleeked my hair down and put in a ton of hair grips for a modern take on 1920s waves...more hairgrips than waves on this occasion.
