The A-Line

The A-line skirt has been around for a few seasons and is one of my favourite items from the 90s revival.
The 90s A-line skirt was worn short and mainly came in denim or corduroy with some cute pastel cotton versions thrown in. It was mainly worn with skinny t-shirts and long sleeve ribbed tops, the A-line got a bit more of a midi shape by the end of the 90s but the 90s short version is the one currently seeing a revival.
Seperates are always so versatile and the A-line skirt is a great item to own that will see you all through the year, layered up with tights, jumpers and boots during the winter months or with a t-shirt and bare legs in the summer. The A-line skirt works with every type of shoe too from the 90s favourite Dr Martens and old school trainers, chunky boots and sandels to this summers big thing (worn with sports socks), sliders, it's an all-rounder, like a pair of jeans.
My A-line skirt is denim and was bought from Topshop a couple of years ago, you can still get them everywhere, Urban Outfitters has a lot of really cute A-lines at the moment. Wear yours with a striped skinny polo neck on cold days then swap for a swap skinny tee for the summer.
Here's how I wear my denim A-line skirt all year round....No Debutante styleeee.

MIX IT UP

Mix it up. Get the most from your clothes. Look at them differently. Wear them, don't let them wear you.

Today's post shows my love for trying out new things and wearing clothes differently to make them look like a totally new and individual outfit. The chosen item I have decided to show today is my beautiful pink organza polka dot smock dress from The White Pepper. The dress itself came with a pink under slip which I sometimes use and sometimes don't. Here are a few ways I have been wearing the dress lately.

Don't be afraid to MIX IT UP, layering with different items and prints and especially, for me personally, a mix up of styles! You know how I love a bit of Fash clash?? Also another thing I must stress, fashion changes so quickly, why are you saving things for best?? Especially items you have spent alot of money on? Wear these clothes and let everybody see them, dress them down or up it doesn't matter, just wear them!! I personally never save things for best, I am a mother with a lack of babysitter which means a lack of social life. If I saved things for best they'd never get worn!! Stop this saving things for best nonsense now!

No Debutante loves Molly Goddard, Susie Bubble,  Lazy Oaf and The White Pepper for current fashion inspiration. If you see something you like, never think I could never wear that!! Why not?? Age, size and what other people think are not an issue. It's your life, who cares what they think? I follow bloggers and fashionistas from around the world who break these moulds and look great.
Here's a quick personal story, that happened to me today, hopefully there will be a moral in there somewhere! I went to vote for my country today and I waltzed in wearing short shorts and an oversize Maui tee, denim jacket, platforms and blue hair. I saw the public workers at the Polling stations eyes bulge at me as I voted. I was glad to get a reaction from them, I was proud I had voted and of who I am. I gave them a big grin and thanked them. I take that sort of reaction to me choosing to look and dress the way I do as a positive thing. I did not feel they were judging or looking down at me, I had caught their attention and frankly their stares only encourage me to flaunt it! BE YOURSELF!......Here's me rocking a White Pepper dress...xx

Devon and Dungarees

Hey Fashionistas! I hope you have had a fun filled Easter break? I have just returned from a weekend away in North Devon, I love Devon, I could really move there and live by the sea and go body boarding every week! There is something invigorating about being in the sea on a grey windy day, it certainly makes you feel alive despite the sea being absolutely bloody freezing!  It's a such a great way to spend time and bond with your family, we cannot recommend it enough! Even though, I love the way the surf manages to give my very straight hair beautiful beach waves and I was really loving the beach and sea air, I soon realised on walking around the quant village we were staying in, with my blue hair, oversized tee and platform sandals that I am totally a city girl! You can take the girl out of the city.......I think I'll just leave living by the sea as a pipe dream for now!

As you all know.....No Debutante Loves.......Dungarees! Here's how I've been wearing mine lately plus a couple of oversized variations sourced on Pinterest from Fashion East and The White Pepper. My obsession with oversized items, has got more and more extreme, my dungarees seem skinny in comparison. Expect more oversized items on the blog over the next few weeks!

I had to show you this last image of my three year old daughter Sylvie, who managed to Photo Bomb my personal style photograph one morning! Sylvie saw what I was doing, ran in the room, knocked the camera tripod and managed to get a photograph of herself  just as the self timer took the photo! Hilarious!

All clothing on images 1-4 from Topshop, Converse, Underground, Shimokitasawa Market in Tokyo and Primark. Image 5 from Fashion East and The White Pepper.

Sportluxe Girl

As a contrast to my modern vintage looks I also love a bit of print clashing and sportluxe styling. I prefer clothing inspired by sportswear rather than actual sports wear and one of the fashion labels I love is Kuccia, who mix late eighties bodycon and early nineties rave sportluxe, think catsuits and bomber jackets with Kuccia's self confessed ferocious, loud and eye popping prints. Their first 'Festival' collection that caught my eye back in 2013 featured mix match Aztecs and day-glo fruit prints, it was tough and had a swagger which reminded me of MIA mixed with a late 1980s Nenah Cherry in style. In contrast the spring Summer 2015 collection is super cute in pastel pales with naive kawaii prints, it's a high summer range that features short sixties inspired swing dresses, slips with matching kaftans and cutie denim pieces. I already have my eye on the whole collection!!! Check out the latest Kuccia collection today!! Want some?

I only own one piece from Kuccia (at the moment....watch this space), it's my big, bright and bold,  Aztec silky bomber jacket from the Festival Collection. I love this jacket and it always gets a lot of attention when I wear it. Here are a few ways I have worn it so far this year thrown in with  few other sportluxe items including American Apparel tube socks, Converse low tops, oversized number print tees and a Maui surf mesh vest. I also added in some vintage denim and florals to break up the sportluxe overload!

Another Girl Another Planet

As my obsession for all things oversized continues, today I'm going to show you two ways I wear my oversized t-shirts. These two oversized Primark tees were bought back in the summer, when I wore them as dresses with bare legs and flat pumps, these oversized sportluxe lovelies also work in the colder months too, paired with 100 denier tights, platform boots and fur coat.
Buy your t-shirts in the biggest size you can and for those of you who can't bring yourself to go oversized, look out for the longer length t-shirts that will continue to be in the shops for the next season or two.

All clothing from Primark and Topshop.

Bernhard Willhelm AW 2012-13

If there is one collection that has a vast selection of my favourite socks and tights for this Autumn/winter it has to be Bernhard Willhelm! I have had these images for ages and now I also have the images for next season so I need to get on with it and show you my favourites from the A/W 2012. You will have seen a couple of examples of the footwear on my Fox in Socks post a few weeks back, so you already know I have an obsession with the socks and tights! The whole collection is quite wearable, I have lots of the slouchy jackets, oversized tees (and of course the socks and tights), much more wearable than the menswear from the same collection, which is really creative, but a few too many unfunctional items (bare chest cut outs being one of them) that are not too Autumn winter friendly, or most men I know, friendly, let's use the word avant garde....I will show you a few chosen pieces from the menswear range too as there are some great pieces. There had been a lot of haters for this collection on pinterest, I am loving it, of course, attracted by the clashing prints, bright colours and big shapes as usual. People seem to take things so literally, you don't have to wear the whole look from head to toe!

Wrap Coats

Slouchy jersey with tasselled layers

Mix Print layers

Punk Mohair jumpers

Asymmetric leggings, graphic prints and sportluxe boots

Mix print jersey tasselled mash up!

Mix prints tailored V sportluxe

Camouflage sportluxe zip up jackets with shorts

Menswear mix print mash up

Snood style hoodie and Bernhard Willhelm!

To sum this collection up I would have to compare the very wearable women's wrap coats with the full on aztec jumper and leggings from the menswear range, this is no way the most outrageous item from the menswear range but it is definitely one of the pieces that caught my eye. The look is mostly for the very brave but as I always say, just take elements from it, apart from the socks and tights, I really want the wrap coats, mohair knits and the jersey tops, it all looks pretty warm and comfortable which is something I need during the British winter. It seems that long hair for men and women is a big thing for this look, so I am glad I am growing my hair, although I'm hoping my husband Phil does not become inspired to grow that long two tone beard! When in Bristol.........ND xx
