Retro Denim

No Debutante Loves Denim Jackets. Whether layered up grunge style with oversized tees, cute denim waistcoats over pretty dresses or preppy modern vintage 1940s jeans, the denim jacket is the perfect transitional jacket and can be worn over jumpers or under larger jackets and coats, you cant go wrong. 
How about a denim coat? These were all over Topshop last winter but mine is an original from the 1970s which I bought in the Bristol vintage shop Uncle Sams during the  nineties. I found the Wrangler denim jacket in a charity shop (also in the nineties) it is oversized, faded and frayed and this is from general usage not a mass produced customised style that the high street might churn out. In contrast to the mass produced denims check out the plaid / denim mix oversized shirt  upcycled by the Bristol upcycle queens Fix Up Look Sharp, giving a new look to an old denim shirt. The denim waistcoat is from Primark and is a cute alternative and really looks great layered over my smock dresses. Get wearing those vintage denim jackets fashionistas xx

No Debutante Vs Kecks Clothing Fashion Salvage Shoot

Back in September Helen from Kecks Clothing and No Debutante finally got together to shoot the brilliant Fashion Salvage finds from the previous Bristol Textiles Recyclers / Love Your Clothes event (we've been to another BTR event since then so expect more Fashion Salvage posts very soon). In a nutshell, we found the most amazing, random, bizarre and beautiful pieces ever and didn't have a clue that we had coincidentally 'found' similar outfit's. It was more of a mad (boiling hot) haze of excitement and chaos at that particular BTR fashion Salvage event at the beginning of summer, that when it came to condensing down all of our fashion salvage items it seemed as if we had almost carefully considered what we would actually take home that evening in preparation for this shoot (not the actual reality of melting from the heat and randomly putting outfits together last minute on piles of disregarded clothing for the final event photos, after completely missing the judging!) Here are the results of our finds, styled up by No Debutante and Helen from Kecks Clothing, as we rightfully decided we started Sports Goth (alas we did not) and the Mu mu Mamma trend! Midi System

Another favourite skirt length of No Debutante's is the Midi skirt or in this case the 1950s circle skirt. When I purchased my first circle skirt I was well involved in the whole modern vintage / rockabilly look and I had only planned to wear it as a 1950s vintage item matched with 1950s gypsy tops and bustiers for the full blown fifties look. After a while I realised I wanted to wear the skirt more often than for my random vintage summer days and needed to move the circle skirt into the autumn and to fit my more contemporary but haphazard street style wardrobe. I started wearing my circle skirts with tucked in tees, crop tops and even mashed up in a grunge layered style which works well especially in the colder months.


Today you can see a few months worth of circle skirt outfits worn No Debutante style showing you how I wear my circle skirts all year round. Expect fashion mash ups and get inspired.


My circle skirts are from Vivien of Holloway (Day of the Dead print) and Loving Youth X Topshop (plaid print). Modern Vintage Queens Vivien of Holloway have an endless supply of beautiful 1950s circle skirts and it's cool to see Loving Youth remade vintage is still available at Topshop concessions too!
