Duvet Days every day

No Debutante's current new obsession is Bristol fashion designer and upcycling extraordinaire Duvet Days!

Every time I see these sassy and sustainable gems, made from upcycled duvets and retro fabrics, I want to own them all! From the fun trousers to the cutest little summer co-ords with their cropped tops and shorts and more recently, the very on trend, Bardot style ruffle top and shorts co-ord.

As soon as I clapped my eyes on the Bardot, (spotted on Duvet Days instagram) I was straight on the blower to designer Emma White requesting her latest fabrics to choose my next Duvet Day garms!

Yes, you can actually choose your fave styles and from a selection of the latest Duvet Days collected vintage fabrics you can create your own bespoke garms, made for you in a matter of weeks (days even)!

My first Duvet Days purchase was off the peg from the That Thing Festival launch party, (you can also buy ready made Duvet Day garms at That Thing in Bristol) a pair of  super comfy vertical striped trousers that are a flattering yet, baggy fit, that nips in at the high waist. Emma then kindly made me a matching top, that was reversible  with stripes and spots!

These garms have become staples for me over this hot summer so I just had to get me more Duvet Days! The trousers are so comfy that I needed another pair asap! I choose a 90's inspired print in blues, greens and coral pink shapes for the trousers and just had to get a Bardot short set made up for my summer hols, for this combo I choose a yellow fabric with pink polka dots.

This co-ord is the cutest outfit and perfect for summer!

I just love all my Duvets Days garms and the bonus is, if you are a print clash lover like me, you can mix and match these lovely garms as seperates! The possibilities are endless! I think I feel another post coming on!

Alongside the unisex trousers and cute short sets Duvet Days also creating colourful shirts, dresses, sweatshirts halter tops plus the cutest range of kidswear featuring  cute lil' skirts and baby bibs aswell as the Duvet Days staples. Prices start from £7 for kidswear up to approx £60 for adults garms and don't forget you can get bespoke items made too!

Get your reversible crop top at Duvet Days and mix and match with your wardrobe!

If you want something unique, support independent designers and sustainable fashion get yourselves over to Duvet Days now for the most colourful, comfortable and fun garms ever, all made lovingly by hand in Bristol.

Style Obsession! The oversized shirt

No Debutante is still in love with the Oversized shirt!

With a penchant for eighties oversizing and prints, the fascination with the oversized shirt had always been there, then one of my fave brands Lazy Oaf started creating some amazing versions in the generously oversized shapes I craved, nobody could compete with Lazy Oaf's shirts....but then....Monki, I confess, I'm hooked, are churning them out on a bi-weekly bases and at really great prices and sizes that fit all.

There was still a prominant gap in the market for larger girls to be able to get plus size garms with the oversizing style they wanted too. One of my close friends is a size 18 and is literally buzzing about the Monki oversized shirts fitting her the way they fit me (I'm a size 12 but always wear bigger sizes and often mens tops) Monki really have changed things for the plus sized fashionista!

I understand why Lazy Oaf garms only come in three sizes, they are an independent and despite the garms being more expensive than Monki's cheap as chips fashion gems, they are limited editions, plus their size large is actually pretty large but I wouldn't go as far to say it would definitely fit a size 18.

The battle goes on between the high street and the independents, Lazy Oaf were certainly doing the generous oversizing thing first but let's not feel too sorry for them just yet. In terms of resale Lazy garms are so sought after, due to their limited edition drops and mass international following, that you could sell on your worn Lazy Oaf items for more than you paid for them originally. Shame the independents aren't making that return for themselves eh? Perhaps this is why the prices for the latest drops of Lazy Oaf goodies are rising, the indies need to get some of those rewards for themselves somehow and there is certainly a market for it!

Where else can you source some oversized shirt goodness?? Vintage and thrift/charity shops have loads of oversized mens shirts available, try on the biggest sizes and play around with it. Pinstripes are looking to be a big thing over the next year too, so roll the sleeves up and style it out! This style is for the boys too not just the grrrls!

I just love oversized shirts, all printed up with a contemporary graphic worn either buttoned all the way up or undone and layered over another top. Wear yours with leggings, jeans or if it's long enough, as a dress with tights this winter or some cute culottes (yes, culottes are not just for the summer! But, that's another story for another day...).

However you wear it, wear it big, it's a great investment that will see you right through to spring.

Six Years as No Debutante, the story so far......

Six years ago I was pregnant with my third child, I had been out of the fashion loop for some time and was yearning to get back into doing something related to fashion, I had previously been a fashion designer for girls wear high street brands, followed by starting up my own fashion label Phlem in 2002 which I loved!

Phlem had lots going on including a market stall, a website and a unit in a fashion shop in Bristol. Sadly, a lack of funds and help for start ups at the time meant that my business had to come to an end in 2005 after the birth of my eldest son and another baby on the way. It had to end so I could look after my children as we couldn't afford the childcare costs at the time and literally one day, I just stopped designing.

By 2008, after a very bored and uninspired stint as a stay at home mum, (I love my kids but honestly that life drove me nuts) I had landed myself a job at Venue Magazine (which would lead me to where I am now, but I had no idea at the time!) I loved the magazine and it seemed a worthwhile job to do and put my kids in childcare for, I never understood the mentality of working long hours, barely seeing your kids, paying for childcare to work a job you hate?? This job was fun, it was inspiring and it just about paid for the nursery costs!

I loved it at Venue, I met so many interesting and inspiring people, we were all creatives one way or another and despite my job at Venue only being in admin, it sparked something in me to bring fashion back into my life!

My husband Phil had been going on at me for ages to write a blog, but I had no idea about them and dismissed the idea, then I found Susie Bubble and Tavi Gevinsons blogs....I was hooked and thought, 'yep I can do that'. So I did. Friends had also commented on the outfits I wore around the same time and so naturally the blog started as a 'what I wore' type of blog but there was a catch, I was 20 weeks pregnant with child number three (alright, I know, three kids!!). Since I had no choice in the matter, my blog started as a pregnancy fashion blog, I really do not cope well with my body expanding, I didn't bloom, I moaned but I accepted the challenge!

The No Debutante blog has evolved over the years from a high street fashion loving blog, to a what I wore blog, to a short stint as a life style and beauty blogger (it wasn't for me), even a brand ambassador blogger, all in my attempts to make it as a blogger! I came to the realisation that I didn't want to fit in, I didn't care if I had hundreds of followers, this was my fashion diary, my platform and if anyone else was listening then great!

I began moving away from the high street and writing more about the non conventional designers like Meadham Kirchhoff and Ashish, and new brands like The White Pepper and Lazy Oaf who were the leaders in oversized fashion at the time which I was obsessing over! I then started promoting sustainable fashion after attending a fashion salvage event which lead on to Bristol fashion.

With my personal style posts becoming less frequent as I wanted less me and a bigger variety of content, I slowly noticed that my hometown Bristol was briming full of fashion creatives who needed to be recognised by people outside of Bristol. We needed to be taken seriously! With my heart going out to them as someone who also once was a Bristol designer struggling to get some press, I knew I could help out, even if it was just a little bit!

I now meet new creative Bristolians every week, honestly, it's nuts, I will never run out of content at this rate. I have met so many amazing, talented and inspirational people in Bristol and I am so proud of myself for going out there (nearly always on my own) and introducing myself as a self-confessed, Bristol fashion ambassador! I am enjoying every minute and I'm so happy that my six years of hard work as a fashion blogger has turned into something good!

The final bit of icing on the cake was Bristol 24/7 Magazine (many of my ex-colleagues from Venue Magazine work there now after Venue was sadly shut down - kicking and screaming - back in 2012, luckily for me some of them had read my blog!) got in touch, which brings me to where I am now, a Fashion Editor for Bristol 24/7 and still an avid fashion blogger (never forget where you came from) not bad for a fashionista mum, with a mashed up fashion sense and no qualifications in journalism, eh?

Thank you to everyone who has read and followed my blog over the years, I hope you enjoyed the No Debutante story...so far.....I really couldn't have done it without you! Mwaaaaah xxxx

Transitional March

March has kicked off with some cute, bright & voluminous fashion from No Debutante, as we wait for spring to get sprung and those chunky layers and cover ups to finally do one for a bit. Until then No Debutante will attempt to bring some spring into our lives with a spot of colour and a few transitional outfit ideas.

No Debutante loves pastel cute colours and layering, sneak some sweet corals, pinks and baby blues into your outfit and layer up those slip dresses and sheer layers over long sleeve tops to keep out that winter chill that is still bugging us!

Monochrome with pops of colour or layered up sheer slips over jeans is the way to layer up this season. Layer up your crop trousers and culottes with sweatshirts and a long trench playing with volume and length.

Don't be afraid to clash up colours and prints or mix up sports wear with culture clash prints. Oversized sportswear and frilled details, are the new looks for jersey wear, get your oversized fix from Monki, it's No Debutante's new favourite high street shop and hits the nail on the head when it come to oversizing. Mix up your new bright sportsluxe with some geometric Tezla earrings and some red lipstick for a pure streetstyle statement. Boom!

All clothing from Adidas, Urban Outfitters, Lazy Oaf, Asos, Fix Up Look Sharp, Reebok, The White Pepper, That Thing, Monki, BTR, Aquescutumn, Vision Streetwear and Tezla

All photography and styling by No Debutante
