Smocks Rock

Hi Fashionistas! Thanks for joining me for the last No Debutante blog post for March. I am ending this windy and wintry month with a smock dress post. You know how I love smock dresses, right? Well here's three ways I have worn them lately featuring my lovely polka-dot blue smock and my blue check smock from The White Pepper and the gingham Topshop smock. I do love wearing a contrasting pair of bright tights and these red lovelies have given a new lease of life to my pretty polka dot dress. I have always loved sixties styling and bright colour tights were a key item for all sixties chicks, not content with sticking to one era for inspiration I have mashed the look up with nineties Bjork topknots and modern vintage creepers and ankle socks. The second look is more nineties grunge still keeping the Bjork buns but wearing Dr Martens and denim cut offs with more contrasting red socks. The final look was worn on a trip to the cinema with my boys with a bomber jacket, platform boots and a single topknot.

 Which look is your favourite?

The Slip Dress

It's 90s, it's grunge, it's the slip dress! Whether layered up over t-shirts for true nineties styling, under jackets and shirts or worn alone in the hot summer, the slip dress is the dress to be seen in this year. I have owned my slip dress for about a year, it's a stonewash style denim slip from Topshop and I love it! The slip dress is a versatile item that can be worn all year round and here's a few ways I have worn mine this Winter. I Love Slip Dresses!

Get Cosy in Chunky Knits

Hey hey Fashionistas! No Debutante is back. As my family life gets more and more hectic with my three speedily growing children taking up a lot of time with three music gradings, a first place in a swimming gala and a two broken braces under their belts, plus I managed to squeeze in time for a big awards ceremony at work and a rather amazing Russian Doll tattoo (watch this space for the pics) So, yes, its been rather busy and we still have three nights of a school performance of Peter Pan to contend with!

Finally, I have found a moment to catch up with my fashion correspondence and write a quick blog post. Today's moments of No Debutante fashion and fun feature chunky knits worn oversized and layered up. It's still freezing here in the UK and a big chunky knit is very much an essential wardrobe item! Here's how I've been wearing mine......

The A Team

I have owned my current A-line skirt for over a year. It's from Topshop and is a little bit too big for me if I'm honest but I just love the cut and the length. Being a fan of A-line skirts I have owned a few of the years, either in mini or midi lengths they have a flattering and retro cut that I love. Whether you are inspired by the late sixties, early seventies or the 90s A-line trend, there are lots of A-line skirts on the high street at the moment and I would definitely recommend checking out thrift shops for midi versions. I am a big fan of the denim A-line skirt but I am loving the St Laurent groupie inspired suede and patchwork versions too. All reputable vintage shops will have a whole rail of these babies available at a price that will match Topshop and Urban Outfitters but will be original 60s and 70s vintage. I would recommend visiting vintage shops to get an original, one off vintage item.

I am loving Alexa Chung's A-line denim mini from her new fashion line and the pale denim 1970s inspired midi version from The White Pepper's Summer 2014 range. Topshop have also launched a great fashion story for their latest collection of 60s / 70s inspired pieces including the denim and suede versions below styled up a treat with snug denim jackets, ankle socks, wedges and long straight retro inspired hair. I love the styling!!!

My outfits show you a few ways I have worn my denim A-line skirt recently. I am  really inspired by the collection of A-line skirt images below so watch this space for more A-line skirt styling and join us in the A-team for more fashion fun!

No Debutante Loves....Oversized T-shirts!

No Debutante Loves Oversized T-shirts! This is not a new story, just check out the blog and the Instagram gallery to see how big my love is! Nearly every t-shirt I have bought over the past 10 years has remained in my wardrobe as a staple item, I believe a t-shirt will just keep going until it literally falls off your back. Don't get me wrong I love a nice, new'n' boxy cotton t-shirt too but a decent t-shirt can last years and I am a devotee who will wear her t-shirt to the end! The T-shirt is so versatile, it's not just a seperate to wear with denim, it's a great all rounder that can also be worn to dress down an outfit, worn under dresses, with pretty organza skirts and with tailored shirts and trousers. Ooooh! I love a t-shirt fashion mash up!

Today I am wearing my Oversized t-shirts including the Vision Streetwear X Topshop one and the yellow 'Gang of Four' one. The tees are worn big and untucked with denim cut offs and layered up with a maxi skirt. Want more? Check out my Instagallery for more Tee inspiration and No Debutante fun!

All clothing from Vision Streetwear, Topshop, 8ball, Primark, American Apparel and Undergrond at Office Shoes.

Gingham Girl

As you know No Debutante loves smock dresses (especially from The White Pepper) but today's smock dress is from Topshop and was the first smock dress that I had purchased way before my obsession with The White Pepper and all their amazing fashion loveliness began. I had mentioned this in my last smock dress report but it's good to give you a quick reminder! Here's how I've been wearing the 'Gingham One' lately.....

No Debutante Loves......Dungarees and Pinafores

I have always loved Dunagrees and Pinafore dresses, basically anything with a shoulder strap, especially when you have the choice of whether to cross over the back straps or not!  The great thing about these strappy items is that they are still going strong for this season. I am on my third year with these dungarees and I still love them with their ripped knees and boyfriend style cut. The soft faux leather pinafore dress is a cute but tough alternative, I usually grunge it up with plaid shirts and long cardigans. Even little Sylvie got in on the dungaree love with her super cute heart pocket dungaree shorts from H&M.

Dungarees and Pinafores are great for layering up with a top underneath and a cardigan or plaid shirt worn over the top or just with a simple vest top worn underneath in the summer months Why not try layering a jumper over the top to create a different look? Watch this space....
